Natalie had no idea when the atmosphere had shifted. She was supposed to be here to interrogate him.

She snatched the box back from his hands, slipped it into her purse, and grabbed her coat. "Since you still refuse to say anything, I'm leaving. I'll find out the truth eventually. Hassan, haven't you realized that you can't keep this hidden anymore?"

But Hassan grabbed her wrist.

He didn't say a word. Sitting on the sofa, he looked up at her from below.

For some inexplicable reason, Natalie thought she saw a flicker of pleading in his eyes, begging her to stay.

But that thought barely lasted a second before she firmly pushed it away.

Those beautiful eyes were just incredibly good at deceiving people. In reality, he felt absolutely nothing.

She was overthinking it.

"Is there something else?" she asked, staring down at his hand, which still hadn't let go.

He merely held onto her. He truly didn't have anything to say.

But when she tried to leave, instinct took over, and he grabbed her.

This house had been devoid of her presence for far too long.

Every corner felt entirely hollow.

It was so quiet it felt as though there was no life left in the world.

He used to always complain that she was too noisy, but now that she was completely gone, the silence was deafening, echoing with the memories of her voice.

He lowered his head, his Adam's apple bobbing. "Have you... not been eating well these past few days?"

Natalie remained silent, though a bitter ache swelled in her chest.

His sudden display of care felt more like a sharp blade.

After another long silence, he finally spoke, his voice slightly raspy:

"You need to take care of yourself and eat."

His fingers wrapped effortlessly around her wrist, the pads of his fingers brushing against the most tender part of her skin. He could feel the prominent ridge of her slender bone, as well as the steady flutter of her pulse.

His grip tightened. Then, he stood up and led her toward the door.

Natalie had no idea what he was doing. She followed behind him. "Where are you taking me?"

His voice was cold and heavy. "Didn't you want to know the truth?"
