The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 47

He was doing this on purpose because Jamie was here. Was he trying to help her get a little revenge?

As Suzie pieced it together, Oliver was already calling for the owner.

But when the owner approached their table, Aaron was trailing right behind her.

Before the owner could speak, Aaron addressed Suzie with a respectful nod. “Mrs. Baylor, I’ve already taken care of the bill.”

Suzie was speechless.

Oliver, his phone open to a payment app, looked at Aaron with annoyance. “Who is Mrs. Baylor? And I’ll transfer the money back to you.”

Aaron stood like a statue, his hands clasped in front of him, completely ignoring Oliver’s words.

At that moment, Jamie stood up. His tall, imposing figure and refined air seemed utterly out of place in the small diner. He calmly adjusted his cuffs and spoke in a low, even tone. “Aaron, get the car. We’re going to the hospital.”

“Yes, Mr. Baylor,” Aaron replied dutifully, then turned back to Suzie. “Mrs. Baylor, Richard has been asking about you for days. We should get going.”

Just as Suzie was about to correct Aaron’s use of her name, Jamie’s hand shot out and grabbed her arm.

Instantly, Oliver’s hand clamped down on Jamie’s wrist. “Let go of Suzie,” he ordered, his expression severe.

Jamie’s jaw tightened, his face growing even colder.

Struggling against his grip, Suzie saw the standoff between the two men and spoke in a frigid voice. “Jamie, take your hand off me. And tell your man to stop addressing me incorrectly.”

Instead of letting go, Jamie yanked her to his side. “We’re late for my appointment with Grandpa,” he commanded. “Stop wasting time.”

She then turned her attention to the fight. “Oliver! Stop fighting! Aaron! Stop!”

Her desperate cries did nothing to stop them.

Jamie’s grip on her wrist remained firm, his frost-like eyes studying her panicked expression. “Are you afraid he’ll get hurt?” he asked, his calm tone a stark contrast to her frantic urgency.

“Jamie, are you insane? Tell Aaron to stop! I’ll go with you to the hospital, alright?”

At her words, Jamie shot her another cold look. Without giving her a chance to resist, he wrapped an arm around her waist and guided her outside.

After forcing Suzie into the car, Jamie glanced back at the diner and gestured for Aaron to leave.

From a distance, Suzie could see the trickle of blood on Oliver’s lips as she pounded on the car window.
