Oliver stared at him in absolute shock, using the wall to drag himself to his feet. "What did you just say?! How do you know about that?!"
Hearing Oliver's reaction, the veins on Jamie's forehead bulged, his jaw clenching so hard it looked like it might snap.
He stood frozen, his hands balled into tight fists, his knuckles stark white. The sheer, freezing intensity in his eyes felt like it could drop the temperature of the entire room.
In the next second, he grabbed Oliver's bloodstained collar again, his voice dropping to a terrifying, lethal whisper. "You knew too?! Since when?! Tell me!"
Oliver let out a bitter, mocking laugh and violently wrenched Jamie's hands off him. He gritted his teeth, his voice steady but laced with venom. "Everyone knew! Everyone except you!"
Leaning heavily against the wall, Oliver laughed again—a harsh, jagged sound. "Is there anything in this world more tragically hilarious? And to happen to a so-called genius like you. Should I call you incredibly stupid, or just too smart for your own good?"
When Jamie remained paralyzed, silent and staring, Oliver twisted the knife deeper.
"Maybe you should take a walk down memory lane. Think about exactly how you forced her to get an abortion. Think about how you humiliated her! You wanted evidence? You were so blinded by your own arrogance you couldn't see the truth right in front of you."
Oliver's voice grew louder, his suppressed rage boiling over. "If it were me, I would have chosen to believe her! I would have trusted her word! But you couldn't do that, Jamie. Even if you were given a second chance, you'd make the exact same mistake. Because someone like you only ever believes in yourself! If she ends up with you, you'll never be capable of making her happy. You don't deserve her!"
With that final blow, Oliver stumbled clumsily down the stairwell, retreating into the lower floors.
He couldn't go back to the dining room. He refused to let Suzie see him beaten bloody by Jamie, and he refused to add to her emotional burden.
Ultimately, whatever happened between her and Jamie was a choice she had to make for herself.
