[Suzie, that move of yours was brilliant! Chloe was so much more cooperative during the photoshoot this afternoon.]
[Also, did you make an enemy of someone important? I asked around in HR. During your interview, they got a call from someone with the last name Stillman. Apparently, he's a big deal and put pressure on Lumina Studio, specifically telling them not to hire you.]
Suzie held her phone, her brow furrowed as her mind raced. Stillman? Besides Aaron Stillman, who else could it be? If it was Aaron, he must have been acting on Jamie’s orders. But why would Jamie go so far as to sabotage her chance at a job?
As she thought about it, her fingertips began to tremble.
Oliver noticed her darkening expression and asked with concern, "Suzie, who was that from? What happened?"
Suzie hesitated for a moment before handing him the phone. "It’s from a senior colleague I ran into at my Lumina Studio interview today. My interview went really well, but then the interviewer took a call and rejected me right after. Do you think that Stillman person could be Aaron?"
Oliver stared at the screen, his own brow quickly creasing. "It’s hard to say, but why would Jamie have a reason to stop you from working there?"
Suddenly, Suzie thought of Chloe, who was shooting a commercial at the studio. "Oliver, Chloe has a contract with Lumina Studio. Could it be…"
Suzie frowned. "Chloe was giving my colleague a hard time, so I just suggested my colleague hint to Chloe that Jamie might drop by the set for a visit. After that, Chloe started behaving herself and acting like a perfect lady."
As she spoke, her thoughts returned to the person who had called her interviewer. Could it really have been Jamie, trying to keep her away from Lumina Studio because Chloe was there? She didn’t care what was going on between him and Chloe, but what right did he have to interfere with her work? Did he just want to see her fail? Or was he deliberately trying to back her into a corner?
Based on their conversation today, it seemed exactly like something Jamie would do.
