The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 60

After leaving the hospital, Suzie spent several days recuperating at Stella’s apartment. She told no one, not even Oliver or Stella, what had really happened.

She simply said she wasn’t feeling well, using it as an excuse to postpone the meeting with Oliver’s friend from the photography studio. After she’d had some time to pull herself together, and unable to fend off Oliver and Stella’s persistent encouragement, Suzie finally started working at his friend’s company—Mirage Studio.

One morning, Suzie had just settled in at her workstation when she heard someone exclaim with excitement.

“You guys haven’t heard? Lexi actually landed the Baylor Group account! It’s for a new handbag launch from one of their subsidiaries. Lumina Studio was chasing that account for ages. This Lexi is seriously impressive.”

Baylor Group? How could she hear that name everywhere she went? Still, she figured someone at Jamie’s level wouldn’t bother himself with the affairs of a single subsidiary.

Suzie mulled over the name Lexi. It felt increasingly familiar, but a quick scan of the office revealed no one she recognized. She leaned over slightly and whispered to the person at the next desk, “Is Lexi a senior photographer?”

The girl beside her seemed reluctant to engage, merely glancing at her before giving a curt nod.

The original speaker piped up again. “Lexi said the project is a huge undertaking and she’s willing to bring some new people onto her team. All you newcomers should go talk to her!”

Suzie saw a few people get up. She considered going too, but the thought of it being a Baylor Group project made her hesitate. She pretended not to hear.

Besides, a handbag shoot would likely involve models, which wasn’t her area of expertise. As a newcomer, she’d probably just be assigned grunt work anyway.

Suzie nodded gratefully. She watched him walk away with long, confident strides, her gaze lingering for a moment.

Harrison had a similar build to Oliver—tall and well-built, good-looking in a completely different way. From their brief interactions, she could tell he was well-mannered and articulate. A thought suddenly sparked in her mind: she should introduce him to Stella. A warm smile spread across her face at the idea.

“What, you’ve got a crush on our handsome boss too?”

The sudden voice from beside her made Suzie jump. She thought it was a joke at first, but when she saw the woman’s ambiguous expression, she realized the comment wasn't meant in good fun.

Suzie opened her mouth to reply, then closed it. She didn’t say a word. She averted her gaze and picked up the folder Harrison had left on her desk. She had just flipped it open, before she could even register the contents, when a hand shot out and snatched it away.
