Seeing his grandfather's face turning a dangerous shade of purple, Jamie crouched beside his chair. "Grandfather, please calm down. I promise you, I'll bring Suzie back. And the kids. All of them."
At that moment, Tobin Baylor, who had been sitting in stone-cold silence, finally spoke. His voice was dangerously quiet.
"Jamie. I have made it a point to stay out of your personal affairs. However, those children carry the Baylor name. They belong in this house. That is non-negotiable. If you cannot secure them, I will step in. Whatever price Suzie wants, I will pay it."
Tobin stood up, adjusting his suit jacket.
Jamie immediately blocked his path. "I said I'll handle it. Stay out of this."
Richard waved a hand dismissively. "Tobin, let the boy fix his own mess. They're his flesh and blood, he's not going to just abandon them."
Tobin looked at his father, then back to Jamie. "You have half a month. If they aren't living under this roof by then, I will handle it my way."
Without another word, Tobin walked past Jamie and headed up the sweeping staircase.
Celia was still sniffling. She grabbed Jamie's arm. "Jamie, I want to see them. I want to see them right now!"
Richard nodded vigorously. "Me too. And I want to see Suzie."
Jamie frowned, his jaw tight as he looked between the two of them. After a long beat, he said, "Suzie has been through hell lately. I... I need to see her first before I can promise you anything."
