Chapter 279
“Now wait a damn minute,” Kairos said, just as Max growled, “That’s not happening.”
“They are worthy, Neo,” I said. “You are welcome to stay here –”
“He is not,” Kairos said.
Lignored him, talking louder, “But you have to play nice. These three are staying, and Valentin too, when he returns.”
Neo seemed grumpy about that, frowning. But he could deal. This was non–negotiable.
Turning from him, I moved to Kairos first. “Let me see your hand.”
“You really trust this guy?” Kairos asked, as he held his hand out for me. I placed my fingers over his shattered fist and gently brought forth my healing magicks.
“I do,” I said. “He took care of me when I was lost. We took care of each other.”
When I felt Kairos‘ bones shift back into place, I released him. He shook out his hand. “Thanks.”
Moving to Thorne next, I placed my hand over his ribs. He winced. “Sorry.”
“It’s fine.”
I started pouring healing magicks into him. He winced a few more times, and I hated that it hurt him to help him. Soon though, he breathed easier and we both relaxed.
“You are sure he’s the fifth?” Thorne asked.
“Yes,” I said.
Finally, I went to Max. He tried to wave me off, “I’ll live.”
“Let me help.”
He didn’t argue as I placed my hand on his stomach. He placed his over mine. “Don’t overdo it, okay?”
“I won’t”
Softer, he said, “Not just with this.”
1 looked at Max and saw his sincerity, his care. “Neo is my mate. I’m not in over my head.”
“Okay,” he said. “I just wanted to be sure.” I couldn’t tell if he believed me. All three of them seemed to be holding things bun from me.
Well, at least Max and Thorne were.
Kairos openly glared at Neo like he wanted to light him on fire.
“You’ve let these men touch you,” Neo said, when I turned back to him
“We’re her mates,” Max said “You know what that means?”
“I’m your mate, too,” he said to me, not looking at the others. “When is it my turn to have you?”
“Oh, hell, no,” Kairos said, stepping forward. Thome and Max did too, and for a moment I thought a fight might break out, even with me still in the middle.
“You don’t get to just have her,” Thorne growled.
“You have to earn all of our trust before we’d ever let you near her in that way,” Max added

That… seemed like a new rule. I looked at Max with a sharp, curious glance,
He caught it and explained, “The rest of us all knew each other. We know our families, our backgrounds. Us three grew up together.” Max hitched his thumb in Neo’s direction. “We don’t know anything about this guy. Who he really is, or where he came from. Or why he’s cursed.”
That… made sense. Neo was a stranger, even to me. “I trust him, Max. I can’t really explain to you why. The bond wouldn’t tie me to someone who would hurt me.”
Max seemed unsure. “I’d just feel a hell of a lot better bonds, but…”
