Chapter 280
Zora’s POV
Things between Neo and the others had clearly gotten off on the wrong foot, but as I insisted Max, Neo, Thome and myself returned into the house to change while Neo waited outside, I was confident that I could turn things around.
After all, not only had Neo been my avid protector and provider while I had been lost, but he had also helped me master teleportation. Surely, I thought, this would help convince the guys that Neo was someone they should accept into the fold.
As we reconvened out front of the house, Max and Thorne sipped coffee, Kairos was crossing his arms and glaring at Neo, while Neo was coolly ignoring everyone except for me.
Okay, so. I definitely had my work cut out for me. But I was sure I could still make this work.
“Uh, so Neo has been helping me with teleportation. It’s only with his help that I was able to teleport back,” I said.
“It’s his fault you were teleported away to begin with, wasn’t it?” Thorne asked. “You followed the bond to him.”
I cleared my throat. “So maybe we can show you guys what I learned.”
Max, Thorne, and Kairos all took a step toward me at once.
“You aren’t going anywhere with him,” Kairos said.
Neo ignored him, gaze fixed on me. “I will gladly escort you wherever you want to go, Zora.”
“I was thinking that to show the others what I’ve learned, I should teleport with them – one at a time.”
Neo tensed.
“We won’t go far, and will come right back,” I said.
I’d hoped to soothe him with the words, but he’d only relaxed marginally, still looking unhappy with the suggestion.
Max, having set aside his coffee mug, came to my side and lightly touched the small of my back. “I’d love to teleport with you.”
“We can go first, then,” I said.
“Not too far,” Neo said. “Stay in sight.”
“That’s not up to you, is it?” Thorne asked.
Neo ignored him too, his eyes only ever on me. Thome frowned. Kairos continued to glare at Neo.
Pushing forward with my plan, I turned to Max. “Put your arms around me.”
“Gladly,” Max said and wrapped his arms more fully around my waist.
To keep Neo from panicking, I decided not to teleport with Max too far, just to the other side of the house. I focused on the spot in my mind, closed and my eyes and –
Max gasped.
I smiled before I even opened my eyes again, confident that I had done it.
Max smiled down at me. “You are amazing.” Then he leaned down and kissed me.
We walked back to the others. Thorne was eager to go next. Kairos glared at Neo, who continued to ignore him.
Max kissed me on the cheek and stepped aside, allowing Thome to take his place. Having seen Max go before, he slid his arms around me, knowing what to do.

“I just hold on?” he asked.
“Yes,” I said.
“No problem there,” he said, and kissed me.
