Chapter 126 Edgar Confronts
Chapter 126 Edgar Confronts
If it weren’t for the fact that they were both Andersons, people online would’ve been shipping them nonstop.
Of course, Chase and Emily’s interactions on the livestream had already been teased by countless people and turned into a running joke.
Now that the clips were being edited and reposted, it wasn’t really much of a scandal anymore.
But before the video of their interaction, Whitney’s Sidekick dropped a recording of their phone call with Brandon.
Brandon straight–up threatened to try to force them to hand over their account.
When Whitney’s Sidekick refused, Brandon said he’d track them down in real life.
That got everyone riled up online.
People started saying the Anderson Group was getting nervous, trying to snatch Whitney’s Sidekick’s account to help Emily clean up her reputation.
They thought, ‘So when the threats didn’t work, are they really planning to hunt down Whitney’s Sidekick in real life? ‘Is this the ugly side of the rich?
‘Just because they’re loaded and powerful, do they really think they can get away with anything, even breaking the law?‘ Netizens started boycotting the Anderson Group all on their own, and swore that if anything happened to Whitney’s Sidekick, they’d fight the Anderson Group to the bitter end.
But that wasn’t the main drama.
The real shocker was the caption that came with the video.
The caption said: [Did you see the interactions in the video? That’s the tip of the iceberg. There’s a lot more happening off- camera between them.]
It hinted that Emily wasn’t cozy with Chase.
She was like that with her other four brothers, too. The caption dropped a hint for reporters: go dig up the history between Emily and her five brothers. There’s bound to be some scandalous stories.
Finally, Whitney’s Sidekick dropped a cliffhanger, teasing that there was still a massive juicy secret about the Anderson family waiting to explode.
If that ever got out, that five–hour–long, scandal–filled video would definitely get dragged back into the spotlight and totally shatter everyone’s worldview.
With the threatening phone recording, the explosive secret Whitney’s Sidekick was hinting at, plus all the hype around them already, it was more than enough to send the video rocketing across the internet in two hours.
Now, netizens were in full attack mode, and reporters were flocking in from everywhere, all dying to know what exactly Whitney’s Sidekick’s so–called juicy secret was.
The Anderson Group, already at its wits‘ end, wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear.
Brandon was forced to go back home, his face dark as Edgar tore into him with a furious rant.
Eric and Emily got dragged back from the hospital, too.
Faced with Edgar’s raging fury, Emily had no choice but to act all fragile, leaning against Paula for support, her face a perfect mix of grievance and silent endurance.
Edgar was so furious that he didn’t know how to yell at his hopeless kids anymore.
First, there was that whole livestream fiasco, and now everyone was saying the Andersons have totally failed as parents,
and their values were so messed up; no wonder they raised a daughter like Emily.
Then those viral pics of Eric taking on seven guys at once started making the rounds online, making things worse for the Andersons.
That mess still wasn’t sorted out, and the heat hadn’t died down yet.
Now, Brandon had stirred up more trouble by threatening Whitney’s Sidekick.
That threat was basically the smoking gun that proved everything Whitney’s Sidekick posted was legit.
Edgar had always thought Brandon was the most reliable of his sons and the one who never caused him any trouble.
But now, Brandon had gone and done something so foolish.
Chapter 126 Edgar Confronts
Edgar’s eyes grew colder as he suddenly shot a glare at Emily.
He thought, ‘She’s the reason for all this trouble!
‘Every mess we’ve had started with her!‘
When Edgar glared at her, Emily felt a wave of anxiety crash over her.
She quickly lifted her ghostly pale face, eyes red and brimming with tears, looking heartbreakingly fragile, and cut in before Edgar could start. “Dad, please don’t blame Brandon.
“All of this. It’s my fault. I’m the one who messed things up for the Andersons. I’m the one who ruined everything…”
As she spoke, her voice caught, and she started to choke up.
Tears poured down her face.
She added, “I took Whitney’s place, her name, her parents, her brothers. That’s why she can’t stand me.
“It’s all my fault. I never should’ve stayed with the Andersons, never should’ve taken everything that belonged to Whitney. That’s why she’s so desperate for revenge, if it means tearing this family apart.
“Dad, Mom, I’ll go apologize to Whitney. If she can forgive me, I’d give her my life if that’s what she wants!
“I don’t want to see Whitney destroy your family because of me. You guys are the real family, the ones truly connected by blood. I… I’m just a girl who was switched at birth, nothing more than the adopted daughter.”
She cried harder, collapsing into Paula’s arms.
Paula felt her heart break for Emily. “Emily, don’t talk nonsense. How could any of this be your fault? It’s all Whitney’s mess. None of this has anything to do with you.
“I brought Whitney back because she is an Anderson by blood. Even if she grew up out in the sticks, I thought the Anderson blood running in her veins would mean she wouldn’t turn out too badly.
“But who could have guessed she’d end up like this? At home, you’ve been putting up with her every day, to keep the family together, you kept everything bottled up and let Whitney walk all over you.
“But her? She can’t stand to have you around!”
Paula looked up at Edgar, her voice sharp. “Don’t take your anger out on Emily. None of this is her fault. It’s
daughter is doing.”
She shielded Emily, shooting Edgar a cold, protective glare.
But your precious
Even now, Paula couldn’t forget how Edgar had walked out on her in that hospital room, leaving her behind as if she didn’t matter.
She wasn’t about to forgive him unless he apologized.
“None of this is her fault?” Edgar snorted sarcastically, his gaze dripping with irony as he stared at Emily.
Those eyes, honed by years of wheeling and dealing, seemed to pierce right through her.
He said, “Emily, are you really that innocent? If you truly think you owe Whitney, if you honestly believe you should step aside and let her stay, then why did you frame her on the show?”
Emily’s sobs stopped abruptly.
Her tear–blurred eyes looked at Edgar in disbelief.
She hadn’t expected Edgar to keep pressing her about this.
That day, they got back from the wild island, when the reporters publicly grilled her about pushing Whitney down the slope, Emily totally panicked.
She was terrified the Andersons would catch on to how she’d been secretly going after Whitney behind their backs.
If the Andersons ever found out what she’d really done to Whitney, her reputation would be trashed.
They’d start connecting the dots about everything that happened between her and Whitney, and realize she wasn’t always the innocent one in those fights, and maybe she was never innocent at all.
She’d been anxious for ages, but the Andersons never asked her about it.
Even when Whitney’s Sidekick posted an edited video showing her pushing Whitney, framing her, and pretending to be hurt to look pitiful, laying all her schemes bare for everyone to see, the Andersons still didn’t bring it up.
Instead, they took her side, convinced that she wasn’t that kind of person.
