Their Punching Bag Became The Storm novel Chapter 26

Chapter 26 He Came To Her

As midnight crept closer, the guests finished their group dinners one by one. Some could not wait any longer and were already squatting on the ground, eating.

Even as they ate, their eyes stayed locked on Whitney. They watched her and swallowed hard, as if staring at her food could somehow fill them up.

Whitney brought out all the dishes and set them on a nearby table. She told Ryan to dig in first.

Then she served a little bit of everything, put it all on a tray, and carried it over to Darian.

Meanwhile, Chase stormed out of the director’s room, his face dark with anger.

He had tried to sneak a little food from Darian when the cameras weren’t looking, but Darian refused and called him out for faking it.

So not only did he get nothing to eat, but he also got chewed out. He had never been humiliated like that before.

Still, he didn’t dare confront Darian during the show.

They had signed a contract, after all, and they had to finish filming this episode. If he pissed off Darian and Darian sabotaged him on live television, it would destroy his reputation as a top celebrity. That would be a disaster.

So he swallowed his anger. But the more he held it in, the angrier he became.

Then Emily’s words echoed in his mind. Everyone says she is the winner tonight. If you ignore me and go to her instead, she’ll feel bad for you and share her dinner. That’s right, Chase thought. Whitney is my real sister. There’s no way she would turn me down if I ask for it.

Instead of heading back to his own room, Chase went straight to Whitney’s place.

As he turned the corner, he spotted her coming his way with a tray.

She was impossible to ignore. Her features were striking, making her stand out, even in the pitchblack night.

Her beauty outshone everyone else in the Anderson family.

But back then, her beauty was only skin deep. She used to be so eager to please everyone in the family that she kept herself small. Her looks barely registered.

Now, though, she had finally started letting herself shine, and her oneofakind charm was on full display.

Of course, what really grabbed Chase’s attention right then was the tray Whitney was

carrying. It was piled high with food. Everything looked and smelled so good.

Chase locked his eyes onto the tray and swallowed hard. A selfsatisfied smirk crept across his face.

He thought, I knew it. Whitney still cares about me. She knows I’m her brother. There’s no way she would let me go hungry.

See, Whitney has always been the type to bend over backwards for me, hoping I would throw her a little attention. Like she would ever suddenly grow a spine and dare to go against me.

For this meal, I decided I wouldn’t hold it against her for not being as accommodating earlier. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to forgive her. I still need to put her in her place and remind her who’s boss.

At this thought, Chase got even more full of himself. When Whitney got closer, he crossed his arms and nodded toward the nearby house. Good, you finally get it. Take the food inside.

The director’s room was around the corner from the first place house.

So when Chase saw Whitney coming over, he figured she was bringing him his meal. He kept going. This isn’t enough. Emily hasn’t eaten yet, so go get another serving and bring it here.

Whitney stopped and stared at him like he had lost his mind. She said slowly, Idiot. Then, tray in hand, she ignored Chase completely and walked right past him, heading straight for the director’s room. She then handed the food to Darian.

He started scarfing it down, nearly crying as he gave her a big thumbs up. This is amazing.

Whitney asked, So, deal’s done, right?

Darian pushed his plate toward her. Mind if I get seconds?

Whitney said, Finish what you have first, and then come get it yourself.

Darian grinned from ear to ear. Deal’s done. If you ever want to make another deal, come find me.

Whitney said, No problem.

With the deal settled, Whitney turned and left the director’s room.

Chase was still standing in front of the house, his face dark as a thundercloud,

shooting Whitney a frosty glare.

Whitney didn’t even glance at him.

That only got under Chase’s skin even more. Before he knew it, he stormed over and planted himself right in Whitney’s path. Stop right there.

Whitney’s brows knitted in annoyance. All she wanted was to get back and eat. She had zero interest in wasting her time on him. So she snapped, Beat it.

Chase wouldn’t let it go. Whitney, what’s your problem?

Whitney shot him an impatient look. What do you mean?

You know I came in last. That I’m going hungry tonight.Chase spat, his tone sharp and bitter. He put extra emphasis on the word I,making sure Whitney knew exactly who he was talking about.

Oh,Whitney replied coolly, so what? Why should I care?

You-Chase’s eyes went wide. He couldn’t believe Whitney could be so cold about him starving. He clutched his chest and gritted his teeth. What if I get a stomach ulcer from starving?

And what does that have to do with me?Whitney couldn’t help but laugh. Do we even have anything to do with each other?

The Andersons were always so selfish.

Whenever they wanted something, they would demand it from her like she owed them, with no hesitation.

But when she needed them, they were all too busy hovering around Emily.

If Emily was the only sister they cared about, then they could go beg their precious Emily for help. There was no reason to come to her.

She wasn’t supposed to be their doormat, always getting used and tossed aside.

The coldness in her eyes pushed Chase over the edge. “We don’t have anything to do with each other? Have you forgotten that you’re my

He couldn’t finish. A loud crash came from inside the house. Something hit the floor.

The noise brought him out of his rage. He shot Whitney a nasty look, then spun around and rushed inside.

Inside, Emily had collapsed onto the floor. She looked shaken.

Chase scooped her up and started toward the bedroom.

But Emily looked past him, her eyes landing on Whitney’s back as she was already heading out the open door.

Emily called out in a gentle voice, Whitney.

Chase frowned and looked down at her.

Emily tugged at his sleeve. Don’t worry. I want to apologize to Whitney. That’s all.

Then she forced a pained smile for Chase.

His face darkened. Why do you need to apologize to her?

But Whitney didn’t even slow down. Emily wrapped her arms around Chase’s neck and got anxious. She couldn’t let Whitney leave like that. So she raised her voice. Whitney, I am really sorry. Chase was only worried about me, that’s all.
