Chapter 27 I Don’t Want to
Emily anxiously patted Chase’s hand.
Chase was getting impatient. But seeing Whitney walk away without a second thought, he felt a strange irritation bubble up inside him.
‘Is Whitney really that eager to leave me? Does she really not want to stay by my side?‘ he thought.
He grabbed Emily and stormed to the door, shouting angrily at Whitney. “Whitney, be polite. Emily called you. Did you not hear her?”
Whitney made it a few steps before she stopped. She didn’t want to deal with them at all. But she was worried that they would come over and bother her while she tried to get some food later.
Whitney turned around and saw the smug look in Chase’s eyes.
He looked like he was gloating, like he thought she had stopped because she was still scared of his big brother act.
Whitney shot back, “Honestly, you two are so damn annoying. Is barking all you’re good at?”
Chase’s face darkened instantly.
Emily wrapped her arms around Chase’s neck. Her face was pale as a sheet, and she looked so delicate that a light breeze might knock her over. With tears in her eyes, she seemed even more fragile and helpless.
“Whitney, I wanted to apologize to you,” she said. “I was so hungry my stomach hurt. Chase got anxious, and the way he asked you for help wasn’t very polite. I’m sorry. I know you don’t have to help us at all.”
r
She was really playing up how much Chase cared about her. She was also making it clear that she and Chase had nothing to do with Whitney.
Earlier, when Chase nearly let the truth about the real relationship between Whitney and him slip, Emily’s heart almost jumped out of her chest.
There was no way she could let anyone find out about Whitney and the Anderson family. No one could ever know she was an imposter heiress. She wanted everyone to believe she was the true, rightful heiress of the Anderson family.
As Emily spoke, she kept scanning Whitney’s expression, hoping to spot even the tiniest flicker of sadness or frustration.
She needed to see anything, to finally shake off that humiliating feeling of being looked down on by Whitney. She needed to feel like she was back in control.
Chapter 271 Don’t Want to
But none of the reactions she wanted showed up on Whitney’s face. Whitney stared at them with pure impatience and contempt, like saying one more word to them made her sick.
Emily grew even more frustrated. It felt like the things she once took pride in meant nothing to Whitney now.
But Emily was a master at playing the innocent victim. No matter how mad she was, she kept up her delicate, pitiful act, snuggling up to Chase and sniffling every now and then.
She looked like she was about to burst into tears if Whitney did not forgive her.
“If Chase is so worried about you, let him figure out how to get you food. Don’t expect me to give up my dinner,” Whitney shot back, completely unimpressed by Emily’s act. Do I owe you something?
“Am I supposed to break my back for you and hand over everything I have?”
She let out a cold laugh and shot them a mocking look. “What, is everyone supposed to baby you now? Do you think the whole world exists to spoil you?” Whitney’s savage retort made Chase’s anger flare up all over again. His eyes went red with fury as he glared at Whitney, grinding his teeth. “Don’t go too far!”
‘Seriously, what kind of sister acts like this?‘ he thought. ‘I was stupid enough to think she was better than Emily?
‘Bringing her back only causes chaos. She is nothing but trouble, always stirring up drama in the family.’
“Me? Too far?” Whitney looked at Chase like he had cracked a joke, her eyes full of icy mockery. “Chase, who is really crossing the line here?”
Chase’s face twitched. He furrowed his brow and glared at Whitney, but for a long moment, he could not say a word in return.
r
Whitney let out another cold laugh. “If you are really so worried about your precious sister, there is plenty of food on this island. Why don’t you go hunt for it yourself? “Like that snake stew you were drooling over earlier. You could catch one yourself. I could even be generous and tell you where to find snakes.”
Then she turned to the overly dramatic Emily. “Aren’t you always showing off as Chase s perfect little sister? Since he is starving and you cannot do anything to help, why not slice off a piece of yourself and feed it to him?
“That way, you two can really go all out for each other. Wouldn’t that prove your love is unbreakable?”
Her words sounded especially weird and out of place. But both of them were so pissed off that they didn’t notice it, let alone shoot back.
Chapter 271Don’t Want to
Whitney rubbed her stomach, which was already starting to complain. She couldn’t wait to get back and eat.
She flashed a bright smile. “Since you two are so glued to each other, why don’t you stay stuck together and leave me alone?”
She gave a pointed look at their hands, still clinging tightly to each other. Then she flashed that weird smile again and turned to leave.
Chase and Emily were so thoroughly roasted. At this point, they had zero interest in calling Whitney back or getting tangled up with her again.
They were honestly scared Whitney would roast them all over again. No matter what, they could never outtalk Whitney.
They were shooting daggers at Whitney when she, already a few steps away, suddenly turned back around.
Both of them froze and instantly braced themselves for whatever nasty comeback Whitney was about to throw at them.
Sure enough, Whitney flashed a sweet smile, lifted her hand, and pointed up at the sky. “Oh, right, I almost forgot to tell you. Even though it’s past midnight, thanks to my deal with Darian, my livestream is still live the entire time.”
Chase and Emily looked up in a daze. And there it was, a drone hovering right above Whitney’s head.
Their eyes widened in shock. The livestream was still rolling. Everything they had done had been broadcast live.
Chase’s face went pale, then flushed with embarrassment. Almost instinctively, he let go of Emily and stepped away, putting some space between them.
It only made Whitney laugh coldly to herself, ‘So Chase knows that getting touchy- feely with his adopted sister is wrong. But he’s still loving every bit of Emily’s clinginess. Whoa, what a freaky family.‘
Emily couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with anxiety. T
They had assumed the livestream would automatically cut off after midnight. And since there was no cameraman following Whitney, they thought the stream had already ended.
They didn’t expect there to still be a drone up there, quietly broadcasting everything.
Emily kept replaying the whole scene in her head, nervously wondering if she had said or done anything that might get her hate or attract trolls.
