But Willow wasn't intimidated in the slightest. Just thinking about how they had not only bullied her, but immediately started bullying Leo and his team the second she left, turned her heart to ice.
"What's wrong? You can't handle a couple of harsh words? Compared to how you all treated me, this is absolutely nothing."
Julian opened his mouth, clearly intending to snap back, but Willow cut him off. She didn't care what he was thinking, and she certainly didn't care what he had to say. Naturally, she wasn't about to breathe a word about Leo's team defecting to Merit. Silence was the best weapon until the deal was finalized, especially when dealing with people like him.
However, she decided to throw him a single, meager bone. "Since you went out of your way to ambush me, I suppose I shouldn't leave you completely empty-handed. If you really want answers, start looking at Vivienne. When subordinates have emotional breakdowns, shouldn't she be held accountable?"
"I don't need you to tell me how to do my job; I'll investigate it myself," Julian said, his jaw tightening as his knuckles turned white. It was obvious he was seething.
Willow waved a hand dismissively, projecting an air of total indifference.
She highly doubted he had stalked her for days just to ask about an employee dispute. She gestured for him to finish whatever else was on his mind so she could drop her news and leave.
Julian, provoked by her utter apathy, ground his cigarette out with sudden, violent force, glaring at her with barely contained fury.
As their eyes locked, Julian stared into her amber gaze and suddenly realized exactly what had been tormenting him for the past few weeks.
It was her.
It was her and that damn rumor about Arthur Vance.
Even the issue with Leo, he now realized, was just an excuse to see her. Did he care about the team? Of course he did. They were vital to Sinclair Group's future, and as the CEO, he couldn't afford to lose them.
