Seeing that he was genuinely hung up on the title, Willow quickly tried to explain. "I just thought you... I mean, I thought Silas was angry. I didn't want to upset you further, so I switched to being formal."
Now it was Silas's turn to be confused. "Why would you think I was angry?"
"Weren't you?" Willow mumbled, stealing a nervous glance at him. "I pushed you away several times and didn't give you any grace. Anyone else would have lost their temper. Plus, you didn't come into the hotel, and you ignored me the entire ride to the airport. I could feel that you were mad at me."
Hearing her reasoning left Silas entirely speechless.
He couldn't decide if she was observant or completely oblivious. She had noticed all the little details, but her conclusions were wildly off base.
He was a bit frustrated by her constant rejections, sure, but he wasn't angry. Throwing a tantrum just because he didn't get his way? What kind of man did she think he was?
Especially when it came to her. He spent half his time trying to figure out how to treat her better; he could never actually be furious with her.
As for not going into the hotel, he had suddenly decided to buy some local gifts for her mother and didn't want to drag her around when she was already exhausted.
And the silent car ride? He had a wireless earbud in and was listening to a high-stakes board meeting.
He honestly didn't know where to begin explaining all of this. Seeing her massive, innocent eyes staring back at him—completely devoid of any malice and thoroughly convinced she was in trouble—he let out a heavy sigh. He didn't have the energy to argue.
