The violent commotion in the conference room drew the attention of the staff outside. Unaware of the brutal power struggle that had just occurred, they pushed the door open to find Vivienne collapsed on the wet floor, while Leo's team stood around doing absolutely nothing.
"What is wrong with you guys?" a random employee scolded them. "Don't just stand there! Help her up!"
Terrified that Leo might expose more of her dirty secrets to the entire office, Vivienne quickly intercepted. "I'm fine. Just help me up."
With the help of the oblivious colleagues, she managed to shakily pull herself to her feet. Having twisted her ankle in the fall, she could barely put weight on it, limping pathetically.
Seeing the extent of her injury, an employee asked if she needed to go to the hospital.
Vivienne instantly shut it down, her voice trembling with urgency. "No. Book me on the next flight to New York City. Now."
She didn't have time to deal with a sprained ankle. The news of the mass resignation was undoubtedly rocketing toward Julian Sinclair's desk as they spoke. She had to get back to headquarters immediately and do whatever it took to stop the fallout.
Her instincts were dead on. Julian found out almost simultaneously.
The news bypassed her entirely. Fearing the massive blowback from losing the entire engineering department, a panicked Human Resources manager broke protocol and reported directly to the CEO, willing to risk Vivienne's wrath to save their own skin.
Upon hearing the report, Julian had only one icy command: "Call her and tell her to get back to New York immediately."
Vivienne hadn't even boarded the plane when her phone started ringing. She didn't dare answer. She knew exactly why HR was calling. Until she fabricated a bulletproof excuse, total evasion was her only strategy.
The second her plane touched down in New York, she turned her phone back on. Dozens of notifications exploded onto her screen. Texts from HR, her frantic assistant, and her usual corporate sycophants all asking the same terrifying question: Why did the entire team quit?
