With that, she pointed to her ankle. "But Mommy didn't mean it. Look, Mommy's foot is hurt, and she's in a lot of pain. I didn't snap at you on purpose. Can you forgive me?"
Because Toby was just a little boy, he was easily placated by her sweet words. His anger faded as he wiped his tears and nodded. "I can."
Vivienne let out a silent breath of relief and seized the opportunity. "If Daddy comes home later and tries to argue with Mommy, you have to be on my side, okay?"
Toby looked confused. "Why would Daddy argue with you?"
Losing her patience slightly, she brushed off the question. "Just some grown-up work stuff. You wouldn't understand even if I told you. All you need to remember is that it isn't Mommy's fault."
Toby nodded earnestly. "Don't worry, Mommy. I'll definitely help you. I won't let anyone bully you."
Vivienne smiled in satisfaction and patted his head. "Good boy, that's my son. Always remember, Mommy is the one who loves you the most in this entire world. Go on now, go have some candy."
"Really? I can have candy?" Toby couldn't believe his ears. Sweets were strictly banned in their house. Usually, he had to cry for hours or do a mountain of chores just to earn a single piece. He never expected it to be this easy today.
"How many pieces can I have?" he pressed eagerly.
"As many as you want," Vivienne replied, wearing the perfect mask of a doting mother.
"Really? You're the best, Mommy!" Toby spun around her in pure joy.
Vivienne chuckled, waving him off. "Go on. Tell the nanny to get them for you."
