After Hugo left, Willow helped Jade wash up and change. By the time she was done, it was already ten o'clock at night.
She checked her phone and realized Silas had texted her two hours ago, asking if she made it home safely.
Lying in bed, the tension of the evening finally draining from her bones, Willow didn't overthink her reply. She just typed out exactly what she was feeling. "Just got home and into bed. I'm exhausted."
Almost instantly, Silas replied—not with a text, but with a phone call.
Without hesitation, Willow answered. "Hello."
Silas's voice was low and gentle, but laced with undeniable panic. "What's wrong? What happened? Do you need me to come over right now?"
Willow had only meant it as a casual complaint; she hadn't expected him to be so on edge. She quickly clarified. "No, everything is fine. I had dinner with Jade, and she got completely wasted. Trying to wrangle her home took everything out of me."
As the words left her mouth, she realized she sounded like she was whining, almost acting spoiled. She quickly pivoted. "But at least it's all handled now."
Silas absolutely picked up on that soft, complaining tone, and he loved it. The knot that had been sitting in his chest all night vanished.
He offered soothingly, "Since you had such a rough night, don't bother going into the office tomorrow. I'm giving you the day off."
Willow laughed. "That's a bit extreme. I'm just tired, a good night's sleep will fix it. I don't need to skip work."
Silas didn't want her pushing herself. With him, she never had to. "Just stay home tomorrow."
