Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 365

Willow thought about it. No, he really hadn't.

"But I thought you were too far away, and it would be inconvenient," she offered as another excuse.

"What if I told you I went to visit your mother after work today?" Silas countered. "I do things you don't even ask me to do. Do you really think I wouldn't have shown up just because of the distance?"

Willow was speechless. The line went silent for a moment.

"The truth is, you just don't trust me, do you?" Silas said, purposely lowering his voice to sound wounded and broken. "You don't trust me, you don't think I can handle it, which is why I'm never the first person you think of when you're in trouble."

Hearing the pain in his voice, Willow's chest tightened. She immediately rushed to defend herself. "No, that's not true. I didn't mean that at all. Why would I ever think you couldn't handle it?"

"Then prove it."

"Prove what?"

"Prove that you trust me."

"I don't know how," Willow admitted, feeling entirely cornered.

Silas gave her the answer point-blank. "Next time you run into any kind of trouble, promise me you'll call me first."
