When Julian finally finished his call, Vivienne didn't dare get too close. Keeping a safe distance, she asked tentatively, "Julian, please eat something. Even if you're furious with me, don't punish your own body."
Julian acted as if she hadn't spoken at all. Treating her like empty air, he walked right past her and sat down in a chair.
Humiliation flushed Vivienne's cheeks, but she swallowed her resentment and tried again. "I know you're still blaming me for Leo leaving, but I've already explained that wasn't my fault. Besides, I've found a solution."
That finally earned her a direct look. It was the first time he had truly looked at her in days, and the small victory almost brought tears to her eyes.
"A solution?" Julian repeated, his tone dripping with skepticism. "Do you have any idea how massive this void is? You couldn't find a team of that caliber anywhere in the domestic market."
Julian had been doing his own research. If it were just one or two people, he could have poached them with a fat paycheck. But they were missing an entire integrated team. Not to mention, gene editing was still a highly niche field. There were few experts, and even fewer who were actually competent. That was why he had been so enraged with Vivienne.
"Of course we can't find them domestically, but we can look abroad," Vivienne said, brimming with arrogant confidence.
She had his full attention now. Vivienne pressed her advantage. "You remember my time studying overseas, don't you? My mentor was Professor Smith. He is the leading expert in gene editing."
