Willow walked over, her voice soft and soothing as she told Ethan, "It's okay. We won't do the interview today. We'll come back when there's more time."
Ethan was incredibly obedient. Without asking a single question, he simply nodded. "Okay. I'll wait for you."
Willow offered him a faint smile, gently but firmly reminding him, "Don't forget the English words we taught you yesterday. Use your free time today to memorize them. We'll quiz you the next time we come by."
"I will! I promise I'll memorize them!" Ethan nodded vigorously, his face dead serious.
After comforting the boy, Willow and Leo decided to head back. Given the explosive situation, they had zero better options.
However, on the walk back, they noticed something incredibly unsettling.
Scattered under the shade of trees, along the edges of the fields, and even leaning against abandoned stone pillars, were groups of young men. They were all uniformly dressed in tight black clothes, with cheap, botched dye jobs in their hair. Slouching aggressively with their hands jammed in their pockets, they projected an aura of erratic, violent energy.
Their faces wore a lawless, thuggish swagger, and their glassy, restless eyes held none of the simple honesty typical of the locals. Instead, they radiated a predatory, street-level malice, practically mirroring the exact same vibe as the goons they had just faced outside Ethan's house.
What was worse was that every single one of them was tracking their movements. It wasn't casual curiosity; it was a brazen, hyper-fixated predatory gaze that felt suffocatingly heavy, sending a sickening chill straight down their spines.
