A tidal wave of venomous hatred crashed through Vivienne. She cursed Willow a thousand times over in her head. She called her a despicable wretch, furious at how cunning Willow truly was—acting so high and mighty in public, only to stab her in the back when no one was looking.
But her panic only lasted a split second.
Years of calculated manipulation allowed Vivienne to regain her composure instantly. She took a deep breath, swallowing the panic and malice in her eyes. "Julian, do you honestly believe a word she says? Think about it. She has always been incredibly manipulative and calculating. Is she really trustworthy?"
"Just look at the project for a start. You know better than anyone how elite Mr. Smith's team is. Yet somehow, she accomplished what the entire Sinclair Group couldn't. Doesn't that tell you she's using underhanded, dirty tactics to get her way?"
"She would spin any lie to win, to crush me, and to drive a wedge between us. She's fabricating this kidnapping story because she wants to ruin my life!"
Vivienne's defense was perfectly structured—logical, aggrieved, and dripping with the heartbreak of a true victim.
But Julian's expression remained detached. A flicker of doubt lingered in his eyes; he clearly wasn't entirely sold.
Sensing that her words weren't enough, Vivienne knew she had to deliver the ultimate performance to eradicate his suspicions.
She pushed forward. "Let's take a step back. Even if you don't believe me, where is the evidence? Where is the proof that I hired anyone to kidnap her? You just saw her. You were standing inches away from her. Did you see a single scratch on her body? Any sign that she had been restrained or abused?"
