The hospital.
Seraphina and Sylvia's faces were swollen and red from the slapping, their arms and bodies marked with bruises. A nurse was carefully applying ointment to their injuries.
"Ouch! That hurts!" Seraphina gasped in pain, the color draining from her face.
She couldn't understand why the medicine stung so badly when her skin wasn't even broken, feeling like salt was being rubbed into a wound.
She shot the nurse a vicious glare.
"Be gentle! Do you even know how to do your job? If you don't, I'll get someone else!"
Sylvia was also in agony. Never one to hide her temper, she shoved the nurse hard.
"Are you doing this on purpose? Watch out, or I'll sue you! I'll have the hospital fire you!"
The nurse stumbled, quickly grabbing the wall to keep from falling. Catching her breath, she glanced at the two women. Swallowing her anger, she silently cursed them as psychos, finished applying the medicine without another word, and hurried out.
Seraphina's face still burned like fire. She thrashed on the bed in discomfort, tears welling in her eyes.
"It hurts so much. Why is it like this? My face isn't ruined, is it?"
Sylvia was hurting too, but she forced herself to comfort her daughter. "It's just the medicine working. It'll pass in a minute, just bear with it. That slut Clara really didn't hold back..."
Seraphina gritted her teeth in fury. "Clara... just you wait!"
Right at that moment.
The hospital room door was suddenly pushed open.
Julian walked in, his expression cold and his mood visibly foul.
Unaware of his foul mood, Seraphina called out to him in her usual spoiled tone, "Julian! Where did you go? Why are you just getting back..."
At the mention of where he had been.
Julian paused, a wave of inexplicable frustration washing over him.
He had just tried calling Clara.
But he couldn't reach her...
He didn't know if she simply hadn't seen it, or... if she didn't want to answer.
The thought of the latter made his chest tighten, leaving a suffocating weight he couldn't shake off.
He couldn't describe the feeling, but it left a bitter taste in his mouth.
"Julian? Julian! What are you thinking about? You're not even listening to me..."
Seraphina called his name several times. When he didn't respond, she bit her lip, looking utterly wronged.
Julian furrowed his brow, slightly annoyed by her persistence, but he forced himself to remain patient for her.
"Sorry, I was just thinking about something. What's wrong?"
Assuming he was stressed about work, Seraphina didn't question it. She pointed to her swollen cheek.
"My face hurts so much... I don't know what's wrong. Can you have a doctor look at it again?"
