Clara froze, utterly blindsided by his offer.
If he had said that in the past, she probably would have jumped for joy.
But now.
The briefest ripple of emotion in her chest instantly flatlined into a pool of dead water.
His actions over the years, combined with his relentless bullying these past few days, had thoroughly destroyed every ounce of hope she had left!
She glanced at the time. It was getting late, and she didn't have a second to waste on him.
Setting her lipstick down, she turned around. Reaching up, she gently trailed her fingers across his handsome face.
"You want to come with me?"
Julian had never been touched by her quite like this before. A strange, suffocating heat pooled in his chest. Instinctively, he caught her delicate hand and gave it a gentle squeeze.
"Yeah..."
But Clara smoothly slipped her hand from his grasp, dropping her touch as she spoke softly.
"Let's not. It would be terrible if the media caught us together! Besides, didn't you say you wanted to keep us a secret?"
Julian's brow furrowed. The raw hunger in his eyes mixed with a flash of speechless frustration.
Because he really had told her that back then—that they needed to keep things quiet...
Seeing his hesitation, Clara let out a cold laugh in her head.
She dropped her hand, pushed past his shoulder, and tossed out one final sentence, "It's getting late. I'm leaving."
Grabbing her bag, she stood up and walked out, refusing to stay in the same room as him for a second longer!
Julian stood frozen in place, a rare look of total helplessness washing over him.
He watched her elegant figure disappear from view, listened to her footsteps on the stairs, and then heard the roar of her car engine outside. His mood soured instantly. Irritated, he reached up to loosen his tie, only to realize he was still wearing his workout clothes and didn't even have one on. His frustration spiraled even further...
But he had no idea.
This was exactly how he had treated her every single day.
Susan walked over to ask, "Sir, breakfast is ready. Would you like to eat now?"
Julian frowned.
So Clara had left without even eating breakfast?
He pressed his lips together, remaining silent for a moment before replying, "I'll eat later. I'm going to take a shower."
Susan nodded and headed downstairs, wondering to herself why the boss seemed in such a foul mood today!
Julian went to his room and showered. When he was putting on his suit, he couldn't find his matching obsidian cufflinks, and his patience quickly wore thin.
