He had always spoiled her, so he agreed on the spot. He spent the entire afternoon patiently teaching her how to shoot. Unfortunately, the girl was completely uncoordinated and lacked upper body strength, so shooting hoops was an absolute struggle for her.
Just like it was right now...
Clara grabbed the basketball with both hands, raised it high, and took aim at the net once more. Rising onto her tiptoes, she threw her entire body weight into the shot!
But she threw it with too much force. The moment the ball left her hands, she lost her balance and stumbled backward!
"Ah!" Clara let out a terrified scream.
It happened so fast.
Everyone was caught completely off guard. "Oh my god!"
"Auntie!"
Miles's heart jumped into his throat. Without a second thought, the tiny boy bolted toward her.
But a much taller figure moved even faster.
Dominic sprinted forward. His long arm shot out, hooking around her slender waist and yanking her securely into his chest.
Clara let out a muffled gasp. Still paralyzed with fear, she leaned against his shoulder, her body trembling slightly...
Dominic gently patted her back, about to ask if she was okay, when his gaze dropped. He froze, his eyes locking onto a small, dark mark on the exposed nape of her neck...
His breath hitched. His brows snapped together, then slowly parted.
That mark...
Clara bit her pale lip, belatedly realizing how incredibly compromising their position was. She flushed deeply.
Pushing gently against his shoulder, she stammered, "Um, thank you, Mr. Jarrett..."
"You have a mark on the back of your neck," Dominic said suddenly, a burning intensity blazing in his eyes.
Clara froze. Her hand instinctively flew to the back of her neck as she explained awkwardly.
"Yeah, it's a scar I got from messing around as a kid."
From when she was a kid?
Dominic frowned, the large hand supporting her waist slowly going rigid...
He remembered clearly. The mole on the back of Sarah's neck was something she had been born with.
Seeing his face instantly turn dangerously dark, Clara's chest tightened in panic.
"Mr. Jarrett, what's wrong?"
Dominic snapped out of his daze, releasing her as his voice dropped back to a freezing calm. "Nothing."
"Oh..."
Click! The moment they embraced had been captured on camera once again.
"Auntie, are you okay?!"
"Clara, are you hurt?"
The two boys ran over, checking on her in a panic.
Warmed by their concern, Clara leaned down and rubbed their cheeks.
"I'm fine, don't worry. It's just... my terrible score is probably going to drag you guys down."
Parker laughed. "It's fine! As long as you're safe! Besides, we still have my uncle! He's incredible at basketball! He's worth three of us combined!"
