But she had no time to ponder it deeply. She called out, "Mr. Jarrett..." She wanted to ask him about the marriage certificate.

Clara left.

Dominic was slow to withdraw his gaze, his dark eyes unfathomably deep. He lit a cigarette and took a heavy drag, his cheeks hollowing.

Standing to the side, Toby's mind was in turmoil.

He had been with his boss for at least five years, yet he still couldn't decipher his thoughts, let alone what he currently felt about Clara.

"Mr. Jarrett, I think this Clara Vance is highly likely a ploy by Lowell Industries to confuse you."

After all, trading a woman for a project saved both money and effort.

Dominic narrowed his eyes, offering no reply. He suddenly crushed the cigarette and leaned toward the chair Clara had just vacated, picking up a hair tie she had dropped.

It was pale pink.
