Meanwhile.
Julian practically dragged Clara down to the parking garage. As a stunningly attractive couple, they drew stares from everyone they passed.
Clara hated the attention, terrified someone would snap a photo and plaster it all over the internet. She wrenched her arm, trying to break free.
She was convinced Julian had actually lost his mind today.
Julian ignored her struggles. He hauled her to the Bentley, yanked the door open, and unceremoniously shoved her inside.
Clara's face burned with fury. The second she hit the leather seat, she reached for the opposite door, desperate to escape.
The locks clicked heavily into place. Julian had been waiting for that.
Clara yanked on the handle uselessly. Furious, she turned to glare at the man settling into the seat beside her.
Julian leaned his head back, his eyes closed in exhaustion as he rubbed his temples. The dim garage lighting carved harsh, incredibly handsome shadows across his face.
He was undeniably gorgeous, a man with everything in the world.
But in her eyes, he was just a bastard.
Clara bit her lip. "What exactly is your problem, Julian? I have things to do today. If you ruin my plans, are you going to fix it? Let me out!"
Accustomed to absolute obedience, Julian had never been spoken to like this in his life.
And what could possibly be more important than him?
For the past three years, he had been the center of her universe.
His fingers paused. He lazily opened his eyes, pinning her with a heavy stare. "I think I should be the one asking you that, Clara. Why did you move out? Why haven't you shown up at the office?"
"Whatever the problem is, we can fix it."
In the driver's seat, Arthur Higgins felt his stomach drop as the argument flared. He silently raised the privacy partition.
Clara stared at Julian, wondering if she had lost her hearing. How could he say that so casually?
She had made herself explicitly clear last night.
And he had definitely seen the contents of The Departure Dossier by now. He knew everything.
