The next second, the SUV doors swung open, and Cassandra Colter stepped out, exuding an aura of pure, menacing authority. Her eyes, rimmed with red, locked onto Clara with murderous intent. Marching straight up to her, Cassandra didn't utter a single word before ruthlessly slapping her across the face—twice.
"You have some nerve touching my brother! Do you have any idea what you've done? He's in the emergency room right now because of you!"
Completely blindsided, Clara took the blows directly. The sheer weight of Cassandra's words left her brain totally short-circuiting.
Chase was in the emergency room?
Was it really that severe?
Clara bit her bloodless lip.
Having never dealt with a crisis of this magnitude, the fear completely swallowed her.
But she was the victim here!
With red-rimmed eyes, Clara fought back, "He was the one who assaulted me first!"
Cassandra scoffed coldly, grabbing Clara by the collar as if wanting to strangle her alive.
"What the hell do you think you are? Do you honestly believe you compare to him? Even if he tortured ten of you to death, you'd deserve it!"
Clara's mind went completely blank at the sheer cruelty of the statement.
Cassandra sneered, taking a step back as she commanded the hulking bodyguards flanking her, "Throw her in the trunk."
Clara's pupils shrank in terror. The only thought in her mind was to run.
But these were professionally trained bodyguards. They overpowered her in seconds, effortlessly dragging her toward the back of the SUV.
Clara was completely defenseless, thrashing helplessly. As sheer panic overwhelmed her, she screamed desperately for help, her voice shaking with terror.
But the underground garage was completely deserted. No one was coming to save her.
The bodyguards popped the trunk and began forcefully shoving her inside.
Cassandra watched the scene with cold, predatory eyes.
Just when it seemed utterly hopeless, the shrill wail of police sirens echoed from the garage entrance.
Cassandra frowned deeply.
Unwilling to escalate a confrontation with law enforcement, the bodyguards instantly released Clara and backed away.
Completely drained of energy, Clara collapsed limply onto the concrete floor the second she was let go.
Summoning every last ounce of strength, she looked up at the flashing blue and red lights of the police cruisers, tears of overwhelming relief streaming down her face.
"Ma'am, I have no idea who you are, and frankly, I don't care about your political connections. In the eyes of the law, a crime is a crime, and everyone is treated equally!"
"As for your allegations, we will conduct a proper investigation at the station."
Turning to her colleague, she barked, "Take her away!"
The officer nodded, shoving Cassandra toward the cruiser.
Cassandra's struggles were futile, leaving her seething with absolute rage.
She had never been humiliated like this in her entire life.
She shot Clara a chilling look and mouthed a silent sentence.
Just as Clara had let out a breath of relief, their eyes met.
She saw Cassandra perfectly mouth the words—
[You just wait.]
The silent threat struck Clara like a physical blow, leaving her completely paralyzed with fear.
