Meanwhile.
Clara was completely unaware of just how catastrophic the situation had become, assuming she had only injured Chase slightly.
After fleeing the restaurant, she drove straight home. The lingering terror clung to her, leaving her hands trembling against the steering wheel the entire ride.
Halfway there, after much hesitation, she finally dialed Julian's number.
Surprisingly, he picked up almost immediately.
His deep voice came through the speaker. "Clara, what's wrong?"
Hearing his voice triggered a wave of overwhelming emotion, blurring her vision with tears as she stared at the road ahead.
He had promised her he would handle Chase, yet he hadn't done a damn thing!
If he didn't want to deal with it, he could have just told her, and she would have found her own way out of this!
Why string her along with lies?
Biting her lip to hold back a sob, Clara spoke with raw, unfiltered fury.
"Julian, you didn't do anything about Chase, did you? Why did you even promise me? If you didn't want to get involved, you shouldn't have lied! You are unbelievable!"
Julian, currently in the hospital room, was completely taken aback. Catching the heavy distress in her tone, he glanced at Seraphina before stepping into the hallway to explain.
"I am handling it. I didn't ignore you. Chase is impossible to reason with, so I reached out to his father's secretary to schedule a sit-down."
Clara froze.
But having just survived a brutal assault, she was completely incapable of processing his excuses.
"Enough, Julian," she spat bitterly.
And then she hung up.
The line went dead.
"Clara!" On the other end, Julian frowned deeply at the blacked-out screen.
But when he tried to call her back, he found his number had been blocked.
Julian's face darkened with anger, but recalling the raw devastation in her voice, his instincts kicked in. He dialed a contact embedded in their social circles.
Once he heard the news,
His expression turned horrifyingly grim.
Walking back into the room, he told Seraphina he had to go and immediately turned for the door.
