"It was a pretty tricky situation, so I was a little tied up. Once it's all handled, I'll make it up to you, okay?"
His tone was serious but undeniably seductive. Paired with that devastatingly handsome face, it was an incredibly convincing act.
If this were a few days ago, Clara would have melted instantly.
But now, she only felt a deep, bone-chilling cold.
He was such a phenomenal liar!
Clara gave a stiff nod and forced a smile. "I see. Well, do you have any free time tomorrow morning? I need you to come with me to handle something. It's really important to me."
Her voice was earnest, and she looked so impossibly soft and beautiful asking him.
Julian couldn't help but feel his heart soften.
But tomorrow, he had to accompany Seraphina to the organizers' office to finalize the competition slot. The matter was crucial for Seraphina's career, and he absolutely had to be there for her.
Julian offered an apologetic smile. He stood up, walked over to her, and affectionately pinched her cheek. "Tomorrow isn't going to work. I still have too much on my plate at work... Let's aim for the weekend. I'll spend the whole weekend with you."
Another lie.
Clara stared up at his gentle smile, noticing the faint shadows of exhaustion under his eyes. For a split second, she thought she might actually lose her mind.
Right then, his phone started ringing loudly.
Julian really had to go, but he still went through the motions, ruffling her hair affectionately. "Something just came up. I have to run. Go ahead and eat without me. I'll have the driver pick you up later."
Clara's face paled.
How could she not know he was rushing off to be with Seraphina?
Julian turned to leave.
Clara suddenly reached out and wrapped her arms around his waist, pressing her face against his back, as docile as a lamb.
Her voice was barely above a whisper, her final attempt to make him stay.
"I don't want you to go. Stay with me a little longer..."
Julian's heart skipped a beat, a rush of heat pooling directly in his lower abdomen.
He couldn't help but cover her small hands with his own, rubbing them gently. He genuinely wanted to take her right then and there.
