The night was thick and heavy.
Over at The Sovereign Lounge.
After leaving the restaurant, Julian had rushed straight here for business.
To guarantee Seraphina secured the competition slot tomorrow, he had deliberately invited all the top executives from the organizing committee so they could be formally introduced to her.
As he walked into the VIP room, the executives immediately stood up to greet him. "Mr. Lowell."
Seeing the display of power, a smug smile tugged at the corners of Seraphina's lips as she called out, "Julian."
After tonight, there was absolutely no way she was losing that slot!
Julian, however, merely gave a cold nod. He told everyone to carry on, then took his seat, showing zero interest in making conversation. His mood was visibly foul.
Noticing his dark aura, the entire table fell dead silent.
Seraphina had no idea what was wrong with him. She leaned in closer. "Julian, what's wrong?"
Julian glanced at her. Seeing the absolute joy radiating from her face inexplicably reminded him of Clara... He had abandoned her tonight. Was she crying alone somewhere right now?
He remembered when they first got together. She had been so young, only twenty-two, entirely shielded from the harshness of the world. Whenever she felt wronged, she would literally hide away and cry.
Back then, he hadn't cared.
But now...
An uncomfortable knot formed in his chest. This feeling of things slipping entirely out of his control made him scowl.
"It's nothing. I'm going out for a smoke."
With that, he stood up and walked out.
Seraphina watched his retreating back, biting her lip hard. She knew exactly what was going on—he was stressing over Clara. That bitch was a relentless parasite!
But until she had that competition slot officially secured, she had to play nice.
Forcing a radiant smile back onto her face, she turned her attention back to the executives.
...
Julian stepped outside to smoke, only to run straight into Dominic Jarrett the moment he pushed through the doors.
The second their eyes met, the air in the hallway practically froze.
Julian narrowed his eyes, a mocking smirk playing on his lips.
