Watching Julian descend the stairs, Dominic's eyes darkened with pure, murderous intent, veins pulsing faintly at his temples.
He pulled his phone from his pocket as he walked away, dialing a number.
"What's the status on Zane Sutton?"
On the other end, Toby Marsh replied quickly. "We've already sprung the trap. Zane lost every cent he had at the tables tonight and is currently in the hole for over a million dollars. He's running around desperately trying to borrow cash as we speak!"
Dominic's voice dropped to a lethal cadence. "Make the move."
He couldn't stomach the thought of Clara spending another second near Julian Lowell.
Toby didn't dare hesitate. "I'll notify the club immediately."
After hanging up, Dominic exited the call screen. He stared at the picture of Clara smiling warmly on his phone's wallpaper. His long fingers hovered over the screen, tracing her features as his eyes slowly turned red...
In that singular moment, the sheer weight of his longing obliterated all his self-restraint.
...
Meanwhile.
After shooting Seraphina a quick text, Julian drove straight back to Clearwater Estate.
The entire ride home, the reality that Dominic was still deeply in love with Clara gnawed at him.
And remembering that Dominic was the one who had bailed Clara out of the mess with The Colters made him even sicker!
It felt like a guillotine suspended directly over his neck, ready to drop at any moment and sever Clara's feelings for him entirely.
Julian gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles white with frustration.
Half an hour later, the Bentley pulled into the estate's driveway.
Julian stepped out of the car, his eyes instinctively darting up toward the master bedroom on the second floor. The lights were off.
Clara hadn't left the lights on for him.
Julian pressed his lips into a thin line, a strange, hollow sensation echoing in his chest as he strode into the grand foyer.
Susan was tidying up the living room. Seeing him walk in, she immediately offered a polite greeting.
