With a clear conscience, Clara couldn't stand the way he was staring at her—as if she had just committed adultery.
Knitting her brows, she turned the other way, intending to leave.
Julian's eyes darkened. Crushing the cigarette, he chased after her, using his long arm to block her path. His voice was low and commanding.
"Clara, let's talk properly. Let's clear up everything that's happened lately!"
Talk properly?
Hearing this, Clara was so angry she almost laughed.
He had thrown her straight into an abyss just to secure a spot for Seraphina. What was left to talk about?
Taking a deep breath, Clara turned to look at him.
"Julian, you've done so much for Seraphina. Why don't you just go be with her and stop bothering me?"
Julian frowned, failing to understand. "What did you say?"
He stepped closer, his chilling woolen overcoat brushing against her arm.
His dark eyes locked intensely onto her pale, beautiful face as he lowered his voice even further and repeated himself.
"Clara, what do you mean by that? Explain yourself."
Still pretending.
Clara pushed against his shoulder coldly, her voice thick with exhaustion. "It doesn't mean anything. Let go of me. It's late, and we should just go our separate ways, alright?"
Seeing her look of utter indifference ignited a fire in Julian's gut. Using a bit of force, he unceremoniously pinned her against the wall behind her.
"It doesn't mean anything? You have nothing to say to me, but you have plenty to say to Dominic, don't you? ...Smiling so happily at him!"
Clara's hands paused in their struggling.
Finally, he couldn't hold it back anymore and brought it up. The only reason he was hounding her like this was because of his pathetic male possessiveness!
Clara let out a mocking laugh.
She looked up at him.
Under the moonlight, his sharp, chiseled face looked incredibly handsome.
She raised a hand to gently touch his cheek, her voice light. "Julian, did you find out I was here, assume I was meeting another man, and rush over to check on me?"
Julian narrowed his eyes, saying nothing.
But that was exactly the truth. When he couldn't find her, an overwhelming panic had seized him, terrified that she had run off to find Dominic again.
Clara knew it.
