Meanwhile.
On the way to find Professor Thorne (Marcus Thorne), Dominic Jarrett suddenly felt a stifling pang in his chest.
He furrowed his brows and rolled down the car window for some fresh air.
Just then, his phone vibrated.
He looked down to see a message from Marcus Thorne:
[Mr. Jarrett, the identity of my student is confidential; I cannot disclose it to you at this time. If you wish to know, you will naturally find out when the time is right. There is no need to come looking for me. Even if you do, my answer will remain the same.]
Dominic's expression darkened. Seeing that Marcus Thorne was determined to protect his student and couldn't be forced, he didn't press the matter further.
He set his phone down, leaned his head back against the seat, and massaged his temples before instructing Toby Marsh.
"Cancel the trip."
Toby paused, glancing in the rearview mirror.
"Huh? Then where are we going now? There's still plenty of time before the flight."
Dominic looked gloomy. After a moment, he gave a location.
Toby froze once again.
Did he hear that right?
The boss was actually leaving?
He wasn't going to investigate Clara Vance anymore?
...
In the parking lot.
Clara Vance stood in a daze for quite a while.
It wasn't until her phone rang that she snapped out of her trance. She pulled her phone from her bag and glanced at it.
It was a message from Isabella Gates:
[I'll drop by your place around nine tonight.]
By 'your place', she obviously meant the home Clara shared with Julian Lowell.
Clara's eyes fluttered. She pressed her lips together and lightly tapped the screen to reply:
[Alright, I'll be waiting for you.]
Finally, all of this was coming to an end.
Putting her phone away, she looked one last time in the direction the man had left, then withdrew her gaze. On stiff legs, she walked to her car and drove away.
It was still early.
Instead of rushing back, she went to The Waterfront Lovers' Wall.
It was the middle of the afternoon.
Most people were busy at work, so the Lovers' Wall wasn't as crowded as usual.
After parking her car, Clara stepped into the warm glow of the setting sun. Among the colorful array of confessions on the wall, she found a small string of words she had carved into a corner three years ago:
[Clara Vance will love Julian Lowell forever!]
