Chapter 6

Vanessa placed her hand gently on Dominic’s, voice going all soft.

“I’m already carrying your baby. We love each other, right?”

“And Sophia left on her own. Isn’t marriage the obvious next step?”

“Then you could take care of me and the baby properly. Officially.”

“Dominic… will you?”

He froze, then yanked his hand back.

“Vanessa, I’ve only ever seen you as a little sister. These five years were about keeping my promise to your brother. That’s it.”

Tears spilled down her face instantly.

“So everything you did for me was fake?”

“You’re telling me you feel NOTHING for me?”

Dominic took a deep breath, reached up and wiped her tears away.

“Vanessa, if Sophia comes back, this ends. We’re done.”

“I’ll be a father to the kid, set aside shares in the company. But that’s all.”

Vanessa’s fists clenched. She forced out a tight smile.

“Then I guess I’ll just hope Sophia comes to her senses soon.”

Dominic nodded.

But days passed. Then weeks.

No word from Sophia.

Dominic couldn’t sleep anymore.

At first it was anger. He used every connection he had searching the entire city, but not a single trace was found.

She’d just disappeared.

In five years of marriage, Sophia had never been out of his sight this long.

Dominic got more and more on edge.

Restless anxiety he couldn’t shake.

He locked down the villa, forbidding anyone to enter.

“Sophia! Stay gone then! See if I care!”

“You’re still injured anyway-if something happens to you, that’s on you!”

While Dominic spiraled, Vanessa thrived.

Dominic’s parents were getting old. They’d stopped managing company affairs, just wanted grandkids.

With Sophia gone, they pinned all their hopes on pregnant Vanessa.

And Dominic was too distracted to pay attention to any of it.

That’s how Vanessa slowly took control of Blackwell Group.

She became the lady of the house.

For real this time.

Designer maternity wear every day. Bossing people around the office with her baby bump on display.

Dominic’s neglect made her bolder.

“Dominic, I really love this brand. Let’s just buy them out?”

“Dominic, my bestie wants to partner with us. Don’t worry about profit margins-she’s practically family.”

“Dominic, I want my parents working at the company too!”
