Hearing Nova say this made Samuel's heart ache, yet she accepted the reality so calmly. She wasn't sad, nor was she angry.
It wasn't love, and it wasn't hate. It was more like... her heart had completely died.
Samuel couldn't help but murmur, "Nova..."
"Samuel, I'll rest a bit," Nova said softly. "I should be able to get out of bed in a couple of days. The fall was just a bit rough. I don't know why I was having abdominal pain earlier, but I'm fine now. Oh, right, regarding my divorce with Tristan..."
Two crisp knocks on the door interrupted her words.
Turning her head, Nova saw Tristan walking in. She thought he was bringing the divorce papers.
"My grandmother wants to see you. You're coming with me." The man's voice was completely devoid of emotion, his deep, unfathomable eyes locking onto her.
Samuel's temper flared. He gave a tight, sarcastic smile. "Mr. Forrester, Nova is my employee. Given what she's just been through, she's bedridden. Whatever urgent need there is to see her can be settled with a video call."
Tristan's gaze remained fixed on Nova. "Nova is my wife. The grandmother who adores her most is severely ill and wishes to see her in person. I imagine you have elderly relatives in your own family and can understand."
Samuel grew even angrier.
Look at the state Nova was in, yet Tristan still expected her to sacrifice herself for his family.
Just as Samuel was struggling to suppress his rage, Nova spoke up. "I'll go."
There were some things that needed to be cleared up once and for all anyway.
Samuel frowned, looking at her with concern. "The doctor said it's best you don't get out of bed right now. You need to lie flat."
"I'll take a wheelchair," Nova replied.
Samuel's brow furrowed deeper. "No. Getting in and out of a wheelchair is too bumpy."
Before the words had even fully left his mouth, Tristan walked over and swept Nova effortlessly into his arms.
The sudden action caught both Samuel and Nova completely off guard.
Nova instinctively tried to struggle, but Tristan held her tighter, refusing to let go, merely warning her, "We'll go and come right back."
