As the steady flow of fresh blood entered Nova's veins, her heart rate gradually stabilized. Her blood pressure and oxygen levels slowly crept back to normal.
Yet, she remained completely unresponsive.
Mathew, despite his old age and frail health, refused to leave. He stood vigil outside the ICU for an entire day and night, occasionally shuffling over to check on the newborn.
Because of the sudden delivery, he could only gaze through the nursery glass. He softly cooed at the incubator, "Hey there, sweetheart! You be a good girl and get strong. Once you're out, I'll take good care of you! You're going to be so brilliant, I can just tell."
Samuel couldn't help but smile faintly. "She barely has her features defined yet. How can you possibly tell if she's brilliant?"
"What do you know? It's called genetics! Nova's baby is bound to be extraordinary. Does she have a name yet? What's her last name? Will it be Forrester?"
Samuel was just about to say, "Not a chance," when his phone buzzed. It was Tristan.
He answered, immediately met with an icy, detached demand. "Put Nova on."
Nova had gone into early labor, hemorrhaged to the brink of death, and her baby was fighting for its life.
Every single tragedy was directly tied to Tristan's actions!
A furious urge seized Samuel to storm the Forrester estate right now. He wanted to demand answers, to scream at Tristan and ask if protecting Kieran was truly worth all this bloodshed.
But that would blow their cover. Swallowing his rage, he kept his voice neutral. "What is it?"
"Mr. Wyndham," Tristan replied coolly. "If it's convenient, have Nova return my call."
Samuel let out a dry laugh. "Not very convenient, actually. I've sent her abroad on a business trip. She won't be back anytime soon. She's likely mid-flight right now with no signal. If it's important, you can tell me. Is it about our collaboration?"
As soon as the lie left his lips, a flash of regret hit him.
If Tristan checked the flight manifests, the deception would unravel instantly.
But Tristan merely gave a dismissive hum. Just as the line was about to go dead, Samuel added:
"By the way, I saw the vicious cyberbullying last night. Nova is my employee now, and as her boss, it's my duty to advocate for her. She did lose her pregnancy previously, and she absolutely did not stage that fall to frame anyone. Do you acknowledge that?"
The voice recorder on Samuel's phone was silently running.
