Nova froze.

"How do you know about that? I was nineteen... I was out on the boat with my brother..."

"Yes, I remember a man being there, your brother. But you were the one who jumped into the freezing water and pulled me to shore. You were incredibly brave, Nova." Chuck was absolutely certain now. He had always felt a lingering familiarity when he looked at her.

Nova shook her head slightly, staring at him with deep confusion.

"The back of that cufflink has my initials engraved on it. Do you have it on you?" Chuck wanted to point it out to her to prove it.

Nova shook her head. "No."

Chuck didn't push. "That's alright. I'll show you another time. You left me on the shore to go get help, but before you came back, Yvette found me. I thought she was the one who pulled me out of the water."

"If you ever need anything, just say the word. I'm only telling you this so you know you can trust me. I won't breathe a word about the baby. I'll help you protect her." Chuck didn't linger any longer. He turned and walked down the hall.

By the time Samuel Wyndham arrived, the sun was already coming up.

Chloe Zimmerman had come with him.

The two of them hadn't slept a wink, flying in on a private jet the moment they heard.

Samuel read over the medical report.

Her throat was swollen from screaming, no traces of sedatives were found but she had suffered massive psychological shock, and there was a minor fracture in her arm...

Chloe burst into tears on the spot, while Samuel's hands shook with rage.

"I paid that agency over one hundred thousand dollars, and this is the monster they send?!" Samuel's chest heaved with fury, but mostly, he felt a crushing guilt toward Nova. "I was the one who hired her. I should have vetted her better."

Nova shook her head. "You can't predict human evil. As for the pills, she probably just didn't get the chance to give them to her yet. But I have the camera footage. I'm putting her behind bars. I want her in prison! If there's ever a push for legal reform on child care, I want to be at the front of it, fighting for every mother and child."

Samuel nodded firmly and walked over to look at little Latonia.

"It's too dangerous to keep her here. It's early enough—we'll transfer her to the hospital where she was born. After that, we'll bring her to the Wyndham estate. To the public... we'll just say she's a relative's kid. We can make the cover story work."

Nova couldn't just drop her entire life to stay home and watch her right now.
