Tonight Her Love Ended novel Chapter 37

At Samuel's sudden, pointed interjection, Felipa's face instantly drained of color. Unsure of how to respond, she immediately turned to Tristan for help.

Tristan's expression remained completely unreadable, his eyes concealing emotions no one could decipher. He volleyed the question back smoothly: "Mr. Wyndham certainly seems overly invested in my employees."

The retort was designed to make Samuel look like he was prying into affairs that didn't concern him.

"She's not pregnant. She's just gained quite a bit of weight! I'm a doctor; I can tell with one look."

Kieran, who had been completely silent until now, chimed in, shooting Nova a venomous glare.

Leaning in, he muttered under his breath to Tristan, "She's up to no good. She wants to cause a scene on such an important night and target Yvette so she can drive her away from you!"

Nova stood close enough to hear every word—perhaps Kieran had fully intended for her to hear it.

But she had literally done absolutely nothing.

"Mr. Forrester, I'm feeling unwell. I'll be leaving now." Nova didn't ask for permission.

When Tristan didn't object, Nova took it as a yes.

She had no desire to stay in this toxic environment a second longer.

At that moment, a business associate approached Tristan with an urgent matter, and he stood up to excuse himself.

Just as Nova set the wine down and prepared to leave, Professor Mathew, who had been quietly observing the entire farce, suddenly spoke up: "I have no intention of taking Yvette Sellers on as my student."

The entire Forrester table froze in stunned silence.

Even Nova stopped dead in her tracks, completely shell-shocked.

She knew exactly why her professor was doing this—he was doing it for her!

Professor Mathew's immense influence meant he didn't have to care about offending anyone. He laid it out brutally:

"I already have an extraordinarily brilliant student who has inherited all my connections and my entire research philosophy. Those breakthroughs Mr. Forrester senior just bragged about? My student surpassed those milestones when she was seventeen! When I already have a genuine prodigy by my side, I have absolutely no need to waste my time on some media-manufactured 'genius.'"

The entire table gasped in shock.

She even dabbed at a fake tear near her eye. "But why on earth didn't he answer her calls? Whether he loved her or not, they were still husband and wife!"

A frigid sneer curled Professor Mathew's lips. "Because that man was too busy obsessing over his precious mistress. And the mistress? She barely had a scratch on her!"

"That is absolutely outrageous!" Abdul slammed his hand down, furious.

Felipa echoed the sentiment aggressively. "What a foolish girl! If that man ever realizes he threw away such a brilliant, wonderful woman, I bet he'll regret it for the rest of his life!"

Even Yvette wore an expression of deep, tragic sympathy.

Yvette nodded sadly. "The world is far too cruel to women. No woman should ever steal another woman's security and survival. Professor Mathew, what happened to your student after that?"

Listening to these monsters spew their hypocritical, self-righteous sympathy made Nova physically nauseous.

Let alone how Samuel and Professor Mathew felt.

Professor Mathew took a deep, shuddering breath, violently suppressing his rage. "She eventually woke up to the truth. She has returned to my side to resume her research. And I will pour every ounce of my soul into cultivating her! It doesn't matter if someone takes a wrong turn in life, as long as they know when to finally walk away."
