The atmosphere at the table plummeted into an awkward, heavy silence.
"Is something wrong?" Tristan's deep, authoritative voice cut through the tension as he returned, carrying the unmistakable aura of absolute power.
Yvette looked up, her face a mask of pure sympathy. "I completely understand why Professor Mathew doesn't want to take me on as his student now. This spot rightfully belongs to his protégé. Tristan, I don't want to fight for it anymore. That poor girl has already suffered enough. I just wonder when I might be able to meet her. I'd love to talk to her and help her heal."
Professor Mathew shot her a deeply chilling look.
Samuel found the entire act utterly laughable.
Fight for it?
Even if it were an open competition, Yvette couldn't beat Nova if her life depended on it, no matter who was judging!
Yvette made it sound as if she were vastly superior and was only generously stepping aside out of pity.
Tristan looked at Professor Mathew.
Something that was supposed to be a guaranteed win had taken a completely unexpected turn.
Kieran quickly jumped in. "Yvette is just too kindhearted. She always puts everyone else first... That's what having real emotional intelligence looks like, unlike some people who don't have a single empathetic bone in their bodies!"
Yvette offered a soft smile and affectionately looped her arm through Tristan's.
Nova figured Tristan must be incredibly annoyed. After all, he had pulled strings and sent lavish gifts ages ago to secure this apprenticeship for Yvette.
But under Yvette's sweet, soothing touch, the man simply gave a regal nod and didn't press the issue.
"It doesn't matter anyway!" Kieran declared.
"Yvette is still joining CN Dynamics. She'll still shine brilliantly and contribute to the nation's tech sector regardless."
Yvette nodded gracefully, a perfectly poised smile on her lips.
"I apologize for interrupting."
Samuel, who had been quietly watching the spectacle, finally spoke up.
All eyes immediately darted to him, assuming he was about to smooth things over.
Nova looked over as well.
Instead, Samuel delivered a devastating blow: "After careful internal review, CN Dynamics has officially rejected Ms. Sellers' employment application. Ms. Sellers, I suggest you seek opportunities elsewhere!"
"My junior colleague is currently spearheading a top-secret government project. Her identity, safety, and personal information are strictly classified and protected by the state. She doesn't take casual meetings." Samuel wielded the government's authority flawlessly, shutting Tristan down with an impenetrable excuse.
Tristan's voice didn't waver. "If this junior colleague of yours is truly as brilliant as you claim, she naturally wouldn't want to miss the opportunity to work alongside someone of equal caliber. True elites recognize and attract one another. However, if she's just a fraud who used her looks to get ahead, then that's a different story entirely."
Nova knew Tristan was a master negotiator. He knew exactly how to manipulate his opponent's psychology, subtly infuriating them until they fell into his linguistic traps, ultimately crushing them to get what he wanted.
He didn't explicitly mention Yvette's abilities, yet every word firmly positioned Yvette as an elite.
Meanwhile, his singular comment instantly sowed doubt in everyone's minds about the mysterious, unseen protégé's actual competence.
After all, academia wasn't completely devoid of frauds who slept their way to the top.
Samuel admired Tristan's razor-sharp rhetoric, but he only chuckled in response.
Have Nova and Yvette 'recognize' each other?
Yvette wasn't even qualified to tie Nova's shoes.
He just wondered exactly what Tristan's reaction would be when he finally realized the brilliant colleague he was demanding to speak with was actually Nova.
