Nova didn't say anything more.

Samuel pulled the car up to Nova's small apartment building. "I'll handle your onboarding paperwork tonight. Come in to the office on Monday. Officially, you'll be my assistant. There won't be a formal contract on paper, but your benefits and compensation will be top-tier across the board!"

With this setup, Nova had officially placed one foot inside the government's protective circle.

After watching Samuel drive off, Nova had barely unlocked her apartment door when she received a call from Tristan's office.

For a split second, she thought he was calling to revoke her approved leave.

When she answered, she heard a single, curt sentence: "Belinda is back. She wants to see you."

Belinda had always been wonderful to Nova—genuinely and wholeheartedly supportive.

Grateful for the older woman's kindness, Nova was just about to say "Okay" when Yvette's voice drifted through the receiver—

"My birthday is coming up tomorrow! I'm so curious, what kind of gift did you prepare for me?"

Nova lowered her eyes.

He truly loved her to the bone; they couldn't bear to be apart for even a second.

Just as Nova was about to hang up, she heard Yvette let out a soft, breathy gasp. The sound was incredibly suggestive as she playfully whined, "You're so bad!"

It was a moan that could melt a man's resolve.

They were all adults. Nova didn't need a vivid imagination to guess what was happening on the other end of the line.

In that brief pause, she heard Tristan's cold voice ask, "Do you have any other questions?"

Nova pressed her lips together. "No."

With that, she moved to end the call.

She had absolutely no desire to listen to live audio of just how much he loved Yvette.

But Tristan was faster; the line went dead before she could press the button.

Belinda pulled Nova down to sit beside her.

Scanning the room and noticing Tristan's absence, Belinda clicked her tongue. "You useless girl, you can't even keep your own husband on a leash? Where is he right now? Call him and tell him to get over here immediately. I have a very important announcement to make tonight!"

It sounded serious.

Nova noticed that several extended branch members of the Forrester family were also present.

But thinking back to the noises on the phone, she realized Tristan and Yvette were likely having sex in the CEO's office right at this very moment.

If she called now and ruined his mood, he would only take his frustration out on her later.

Seeing Nova hesitate, a surge of fiery protectiveness flared in Belinda's chest. She snatched Nova's phone to dial the number herself.

But scrolling through the contacts, she realized Nova didn't even have her grandson's number saved anymore.

Sighing heavily internally, Belinda dialed the digits from memory.

Tristan made it a point to ignore all of Nova's calls, but Nova didn't feel like explaining that to his grandmother right now.
