She hadn't expected Tristan to simply ignore it.
Unable to figure out what was going through his head, Nova decided to stop driving herself crazy over it.
In the dining room, just as Nova was about to take a seat, Belinda pointed directly at the empty chair. "Nova, go sit next to your husband!"
Nova glanced at Tristan. He was currently wiping his hands with a towel handed to him by a maid.
Lowering her gaze, she walked over. But just as she reached out to pull the chair back, Tristan's hand landed right on top of hers.
It was like touching a live wire. Nova's immediate instinct was to pull away.
But Tristan was faster, withdrawing his hand before she even could.
Watching them, Belinda smiled, looking thoroughly satisfied.
Yes, this was how it should be. It didn't matter if there was no love between a married couple yet; with enough physical contact, the feelings would naturally grow.
With a warm, affectionate smile at Nova, Belinda turned to Tristan.
"I bet you didn't know this, but Nova specifically came to ask me about your favorite foods. She even wrote down a detailed list. Any ingredients you dislike but are needed for flavor, she carefully picks them out after cooking. No one can match how much she cares for you! Finding someone who loves you this much is a blessing you couldn't earn in three lifetimes!"
Hearing this, however, Nova only found it laughable—especially after what she had learned about her father.
In the moment she lowered her eyes, she heard a faint, unmistakable sneer beside her.
Yasmin muttered in a voice meant only for her, "What a desperate little lapdog."
Nova's hands curled into tight fists. At the head of the table, Belinda spoke up again, "Tristan, why aren't you serving your wife some food? Be nice to her, or she'll run away!"
As soon as the words left her mouth, a piece of shrimp landed in Nova's bowl.
Nova looked over. Tristan had set down his silverware and replied coolly, "She won't."
Seeing Tristan defend Nova, Belinda nodded happily and made a suggestion.
"Tomorrow is the weekend. I want you two to accompany me to Greenhill Abbey to see Master Nolan. I came back so suddenly that I left a few things unfinished, so I need to go wrap them up."
Nova knew exactly what Belinda was trying to do—play matchmaker. She didn't speak up, waiting for Tristan to be the one to decline.
After all, she had overheard on the phone earlier that tomorrow was Yvette's birthday.
But uncharacteristically, Tristan nodded and agreed.
Nova frowned, staying silent.
Just because he agreed now didn't mean he would actually go tomorrow.
But until dinner ended, Nova never touched the shrimp Tristan had placed in her bowl.
