Tonight Her Love Ended novel Chapter 53

Since they got married, this was only the third time they had shared a bedroom.

Nova wordlessly picked up a pillow, turning to go sleep on the sofa in the adjoining room.

But she could have sworn she heard a faint, mocking scoff from the man behind her.

She knew exactly what that meant. Tristan thought she was putting on an act, playing hard to get just to force him to coax her back to bed...

But Nova no longer cared what he thought of her.

Just as she was about to lie down on the sofa, his voice drifted out from the bedroom. "Are you trying to sleep out here so Belinda finds out and gets upset?"

Nova opened her eyes to find Tristan standing right in front of her, looking down at her with a judgmental stare.

There was a hint of ridicule in his eyes, laughing at her for playing such cheap, manipulative games.

She sat up, instinctively explaining herself. "I just think that since we're getting a divorce, and you already have someone you love, it's not appropriate for us to sleep in the same bed."

Tristan's gaze darkened. "You don't get to call the shots here."

Nova's pupils trembled violently. In an instant, her eyes reddened. Finding a sudden surge of courage, she fired back.

"And if I had just gotten straight into bed, you would've accused me of purposely trying to sleep with you, wouldn't you? It doesn't matter what I say or do—in your eyes, I'm always wrong. I'm always scheming. Isn't that right?"

If she did one thing, she was wrong. If she did the exact opposite, she was still wrong!

Her bloodshot eyes met his cold, indifferent stare, but her outburst didn't evoke a single drop of sympathy from him. All she got in return was one icy sentence. "You think you've been wronged?"

Nova's nose stung, her voice trembling. "Shouldn't I feel wronged? My father, he..."

Before she could even finish and speak of the injustice her father had suffered, Tristan brutally cut her off.

His expression was utterly detached, his tone freezing. "You brought that on yourself."

Nova froze in place. Staring at the man in front of her, everything suddenly became crystal clear.

Seeing her devastated expression, Tristan furrowed his brows slightly and looked away. "You'd better behave."

"Why do you always want to sit with an old woman like me? Go sit next to your husband. After breakfast, you two are coming with me to Greenhill Abbey."

Because of last night, Nova had subconsciously kept her distance from Tristan, angling her body slightly away from him.

So when Belinda pushed her, she lost her balance and practically fell into Tristan.

Frowning, Tristan set down his coffee and reached out to catch her.

But Nova steadied herself incredibly fast, not letting a single inch of her body touch his, before subtly stepping back to create distance.

She didn't care if she was misunderstood, but she refused to be slapped with the disgusting label of "playing hard to get."

Tristan shot her a sidelong glance before saying, "I have to negotiate a new project with the provincial government today. I won't be able to go with you."

Nova already knew this. Today was Yvette's birthday. He loved her so much that no matter what, there was no way he'd let her spend it alone.

Belinda's face fell, and she insisted that Tristan come along, but Nova interrupted her. "I'll go with you, Belinda."
