"How the hell could Tristan just abandon you in the middle of nowhere and let you get soaked?! You're pregnant! Wasn't he worried you'd run into someone dangerous? If I hadn't happened to be driving past, what would you have done today?"
Samuel was so furious he smashed the glass in his hand, his usual refined, aristocratic composure completely shattering.
"Just because Yvette's research faced a little scrutiny and she felt slightly wronged, does that make it a national emergency?"
Having showered and changed into dry clothes, Nova was still shivering slightly.
She had been soaked to the bone. She tried to take shelter in a small shop, but the owner wouldn't let her in, leaving her at the mercy of the storm.
Only now, after finishing a cup of hot tea, was she starting to feel a bit better.
Hearing Samuel explain why Tristan had abandoned her didn't trigger any particular sadness or emotional turbulence.
She simply asked, "Isn't it almost time to head to the auction?"
Watching her get bullied to this extent, Samuel decided this couldn't go on.
Tristan did have the best lawyers in the city, and the government had even requested his firm's legal counsel.
But that didn't mean Nova had to suffer like this forever. If only...
Samuel checked the time, a thought seemingly crossing his mind. "Get yourself ready. I'll wait for you downstairs."
This auction was anything but ordinary. The venue would be packed with the absolute elite. Even though the start time had been moved up, none of the international industry titans, professors, or academics were late.
Every single seat was incredibly precious.
Not daring to waste another second, Nova grabbed her things and hurried downstairs.
She hadn't expected that the first thing she'd see upon reaching the ground floor was Yvette, clinging to Tristan's arm as they got into a car.
As Yvette turned her head, she flashed a radiant, sickeningly sweet smile at him.
Kieran sneered, "Don't tell me she's trying to secretly stalk you again?"
Tristan didn't answer.
Yvette stayed quiet too, merely offering a faint smirk.
This auction had an incredibly high barrier to entry. Aside from the standard proof of funds, outsiders who knew nothing about the industry—like Nova—needed a top-tier insider to personally escort them in.
She knew Nova's limits. There was zero chance Nova had the connections to rub shoulders with the heavyweights in their field.
So, Yvette wasn't the least bit worried. Glancing at Tristan, who had closed his eyes to rest, she turned to Kieran. "It's getting late, let's hurry. Chuck has probably been waiting at the venue for ages!"
If they were late, they would absolutely be denied entry.
Kieran scoffed, "What's the rush? You have me playing chauffeur to clear the way, and Tristan backing you up. That research data and that imperial green signet ring you love so much are as good as yours! Right, Tristan?"
