It was late at night, and the members of Flame Speed Racing were already resting in their dorms. Meanwhile, Phil and a few cadets from the flight academy were still busy cleaning the base.
He grumbled, "Mr. Lowe, what's the deal with Ms. Quinn? Why are you so obedient toward her? She's just a nobody…"
Jason shot him a withering glare. "If you don't even know who she is, why did you provoke her in the first place? Have you always been this idiotic?"
Phil immediately fell silent. How was this his fault? He just wanted to take the base back. What could he have possibly done wrong?
Jason sneered. "Let me put it this way. The higher-ups value her a lot. Aside from the internationally renowned Sheila, Stonegate hasn't won an international racing championship in years until she came into the picture!"
He added sarcastically, "Also, the racers trained under her improved exponentially. She's a talent under the nation's protection. Why would you go up against her when you didn't even know who she was? Honestly, you make me wonder what is wrong with you."
As Phil and Hank listened on, they grew increasingly ashamed. Planes were their only passion, and they barely followed racing news. They had no idea just how formidable Noelle and her team were. If they had known Flame Speed Racing was so famous in the industry, they would never have stirred up trouble.
Hank couldn't take it anymore. "Mr. Lowe, could you please talk to Ms. Quinn and let us rest? I really can't keep this up."
At this rate, they could forget about sleeping tonight.
Jason snorted. "It's bad enough that I got dragged into cleaning with you. How dare you ask for rest now? Not a chance! Commander Gardner and Mr. Webb are both watching. You're not getting a wink of sleep if you don't finish the task!"
Besides, they had to wait for Flame Speed Racing to inspect the results the following. This was, without question, a huge humiliation for them.
Phil regretted it deeply. If he had known, he wouldn't have provoked Noelle.
…
Noelle slept well at the new base. When she got up in the morning, she found the cadets from the flight academy making breakfast for them. Each of them had dark circles under their eyes and couldn't stop yawning. Clearly, they hadn't slept at all the night before.
Seeing her enter the cafeteria, Jason hurried over with breakfast. "Ms. Quinn, you're here. The cadets prepared this breakfast for Flame Speed Racing. Would you like to try it?"
Noelle calmly raised a hand. "No. What if they intended to poison us and take over the base? We'd be in big trouble. It'd be better if we don't eat the breakfast you made."
