"I heard you ran into some trouble at the training base, so I wanted to come check on you. I didn't expect…" Hunter trailed off before he continued, "to run into Finn here."
He sat beside Noelle, showing just how close they were. "I know you're hurting. What happened back then makes you feel you owe them, and that's why you can't bring yourself to tell them the truth.
"However, it's all in the past now. Are we really going to let them keep misunderstanding you?" Hunter asked as he looked at her. "I'll go talk to Finn and clear things up. When we were still in Solar Squad, he and I actually got along pretty well."
Back then, Hunter's favorite person was Noelle, and he spent the most time with her as well. Even so, he had good relationships with the other teammates, too. Like Finn, for instance. They used to imagine the future together and would do anything for each other without hesitation.
Noelle fell silent for a few seconds.
If she wanted Solar Squad to come together and unite again, it was indeed necessary to tell her former teammates what really happened back then. That was the only way to get everyone to open up and trust one another again. Hunter's suggestion was feasible.
Hunter got up to find Finn. Before he left, he ruffled Noelle's hair, comforting her. She couldn't bring herself to pay attention to Flame Speed Racing's practice. She felt really down. As she sat on the training field, she saw the smiling faces of her former teammates in her mind.
They shed tears of joy after winning the championship together. They comforted each other after their rivals pulled a dirty trick. No matter what hardship came their way, they held on to their core values and trusted one another. Those moments were things no outsider could replace.
Noelle took a deep breath to stop the tears from falling. She didn't know how much time had passed, but she eventually heard Hunter's voice from behind her.
"He's here."
Noelle turned to look. Hunter and Finn stood behind her, making her feel protected and at ease. Her nose stung as she looked at Finn. "I'm sorry."
Finn's eyes were red, too. "I'm the one who should be apologizing."
Hunter looked at Noelle with a solemn expression. "Finn said none of them knew you'd been in a car crash back then. Someone told them you took a bribe and chose to forfeit the race. They were even given screenshots of the deal. It looked genuine enough to pass for the truth."
Noelle frowned. "What?"
She couldn't believe someone actually did that behind her back. This was such a huge conspiracy.
Hunter's expression darkened as well. "They staged the crash so they could stop you from joining the race. Then, they drove a wedge between you and your teammates, making your friends think you skipped the race because you took a bribe. After that, they took revenge on your teammates, directing all their hatred to you."
