My chest tightened painfully.

He continued. “I went to the clinic after you left, and I found out… you never lied. Not once. You never did. They told me everything. The seizure. The Moonbane curse. All of it. I am so sorry, Iris.”

Tears burned behind my eyes.

“I’m so sorry,” he whispered.

I looked away, blinking hard.

“Jeremy told me what happened that night, Eric said.

I turned to him sharply. My heart slammed against my ribs. “What night?”

He hesitated, his jaw tightened as if he was in pain. “The night we had sex.

The room tilted.

“The night Evie was conceived,” he added quietly.

“What did he say?” I whispered, tears welling up in my eyes.

**Flashback** (TRIGGER WARNING!!!)

It had been three days since Alpha Marcus, Eric’s father had died.

Eric had been drinking heavily, drowning himself in whiskey and grief.

I found him in his study, slumped over his desk with an empty bottle in his hand.

“Eric,” I said softly, stepping inside. “You need to stop.”

He looked up at me with bloodshot eyes. “He’s gone,” he slurred. “My father’s gone.”

“I know.” I moved closer, kneeling beside his chair. “I’m so sorry.”

He grabbed my wrist suddenly. His grip was tight. Too tight.

“Eric-”

“Don’t leave,” he muttered. “Everyone leaves.”

Then I snapped back to my senses. Heat flared through me and I shot him a sharp glare, slamming the door hard.

But Eric moved fast. He shot out his foot at the last second and the door banged against it. He winced, and released a hiss between his teeth.

I felt a small, bitter satisfaction at that.

“What the hell are you doing here?” I hissed. “Get out.”

He stayed in the doorway, looking pale. “Please,” he said, voice rough. “Please, Iris. I just want to talk.”

“No.” I shook my head and tried to shove the door closed again, but his foot held it firm. “I don’t want to talk. Leave.”

“Iris, listen to me-”
