Chapter 145
There was another knock. Then-
“Iris? It’s me.”
Rowan.
Shane and Jasmine exchanged a quick glance. The same question passed silently between us. Did he hear us?
“I’ll go open it,” Shane whispered. He crossed the room and opened the door.
Rowan stood at the doorway.
He stepped inside without waiting for an invitation, closing the door behind him.
He glanced around the room. His eyes landed on the half-packed bag on the bed, then shifted back to me. His jaw tightened.
He turned to Shane and Jasmine. “Leave.”
For a second, they hesitated. Jasmine gave me a quick, worried glance. Shane’s mouth twitched as if he wanted to argue.
Rowan’s eyes narrowed. “Now.”
The steel in his voice left no room for argument. Jasmine squeezed my arm once before she and Shane slipped out. The door shut again, and the room suddenly felt
too small.
I turned back to my bag and forced my hands to keep moving. My fingers trembled, but I kept packing.
Rowan didn’t speak. He simply stood there.
The silence stretched until it began to get on my nerves. I could feel his eyes on the back of my head and it was wearing me out.
Finally, just as I was about to snap, his deep voice cut through the air.
“Do you still love him?” he asked.
