Inside Langford Group, two men sat facing each other. One was the undefeated legal titan; the other, a prodigy at the pinnacle of modern medicine.
Even on someone else's turf, Zachary carried himself as though everything was under his control.
"Mr. Langford, I'm here today to ask you for a favor. My wife, Lynette Sterling, has gone missing in Kingsbridge. I'd like your help finding her."
Philip leaned back against the couch, his posture lazy, his tone indifferent. "Mr. Wright, missing persons are usually handled through the embassy. Don't you think you're barking up the wrong tree by coming to me instead?"
It wasn't that Zachary didn't want to contact the embassy. Legally speaking, he no longer could. He and Lynette were divorced. He had no standing, no formal relationship that would justify diplomatic involvement. That was why he was here.
Zachary explained, "My wife and I are going through some… complications, so the embassy isn't in a position to intervene. If you're willing to help me find her, the Wright Corporation's legal department will provide Langford Group with free legal services for any case at any time."
It was a generous offer. The Wright Corporation's legal team was internationally renowned. Zachary was confident Philip wouldn't refuse.
However, he was wrong. Philip rejected his offer.
"Mr. Wright, your terms are tempting, but Langford Group doesn't need your services."
Zachary finally sensed something was off. Narrowing his eyes, he asked, "Mr. Langford, you seem to have something against me."
Philip's reply was flat. "You're reading too much into it, Mr. Wright. I have another meeting, so I won't keep you."
After Zachary left, his brows never relaxed.
Ethan noticed immediately and asked, "Did the meeting not go as planned, Mr. Wright?"
That was an understatement. Zachary hadn't even had the chance to negotiate—he'd been shut down outright.
His instincts screamed Philip's hostility wasn't random. There was something there he didn't know. "Dig into Philip's background. I want everything from his childhood until today by tonight."
Ethan didn't understand the sudden shift, but he complied.
