Chapter 112

Ever since Tristan got engaged, Brianna and Patsy had been keeping their distance from him to avoid any suspicion. They hardly ever invited him out anymore.
Tristan seemed busy with something too, so he hardly ever hung out with them these days.
Clair kept hitting them up for help with the charity gala she was putting together.
Time flew by, and before they knew it, the land auction in Valmere was here.
Tristan called Brianna, asking if she wanted to catch the action. He knew she wasn’t about to miss a moment like this.
He swung by to pick her up, and they made their way to the auction site together.
Since this was a proper business auction, the place was filled with elites, all dressed in professional attire. The men were suited up, while the women wore either business suits or skirt suits, all in muted, professional
tones.
Just as the meeting was about to start, a flash of bright orange at the entrance caught everyone’s attention.
Under the scrutiny of the crowd, Blanca held her head high, arm in arm with Whitney, walking gracefully toward their seats. She looked less like a businesswoman and more like a queen who had just ascended the throne.
Brianna rolled her eyes inwardly. ‘She just has to be the center of attention wherever she goes, doesn’t she?‘
Whitney was momentarily stunned when he saw Brianna. ‘How did she end up here?”
As their
eyes met, he caught the mocking look in her eyes.
He glanced around, but Brandon was nowhere to be seen. A bad feeling crept over him.
Whitney nudged Blanca’s arm. He frowned and motioned for Blanca to look over there. “How did she end up here?
Blanca followed his gaze and noticed Brianna and Tristan sitting diagonally across from them.
Those two adulterers aren’t even trying to cover it up. She whipped out her phone and started snapping photos of them, not even bothering to be discreet.
By chance, Blanca had picked up on the Nancy and her mother’s resentment toward Brianna. With just a few words, she managed to get Nancy to spill the beans.
And after witnessing Tristan kiss Brianna right in front of them, Blanca’s mind had already cooked up a whole sordid story about the two of them.
Besides, there were those photos of Clair and Brianna. Once Darcy’s pregnancy was stable and her belly was showing, Blanca would take her sweet time teaching Brianna à lesson.

With all that hard evidence laid out, let’s see what excuses Brianna can possibly come up with
Blanca could hardly wait to see that fierce Gabrielle finally get knocked down a peg. So you love shielding your daughter–in–law, huh? Just wait till you find out how many times your precious son’s been played for a fool by his wife.”

Just imagining that old witch getting put in her place made Blanca smirk with glee. Almost there. Once those plots are mine, nobody will ever dare give me attitude again.”
After years of swallowing her pride, she could finally strut around and make others eat their words. Just imagining it made her feel so damn good.
Seeing how unconcerned Blanca was, Whitney’s frown only deepened, and he spoke again. “Hey, don’t you find it odd she’s here?”
“What’s so strange about it?” Blanca lifted her chin, fingers brushing the flawless emerald necklace at her neck, her voice full of disdain. “She’s just here to watch us make fools of ourselves, thinking Unity Group can’t secure that land. Well, she’s in for a disappointment.”
Whitney couldn’t shake the suspicion as he glanced over at Brianna, who looked totally relaxed, laughing and chatting away with Tristan. ‘Something just doesn’t feel right.
Before he could dwell on it any longer, the host stepped up to the podium and announced the auction was about to begin. As the bidding rounds went on, the knot in Whitney’s stomach just kept getting tighter.
When the auction started, paddles shot up all over the place as the big real estate players jumped in. After a few rounds of price hikes, the usual local companies started shaking their heads and backing out, leaving just a few unknown out–of–town firms dueling it out with Unity Group.
Unity Group kept driving the prices sky–high, snapping up several plots at numbers so wild that everyone was staring at them like they’d lost their minds.
Whitney had never really been in charge of Unity Group, but after decades in the real estate game, even someone as slow as him could sense something was off.
Blanca raised her paddle again, hell–bent on winning the prime plot right in the center of the district.
Whitney, his expression dark, grabbed her hand and forced it down.
The auctioneer looked confused. “Unity Group? Ms. Delgado, are you still bidding?”
Whitney tried to explain, but Blanca jerked her hand free and shot her paddle up once more.
The price was already through the roof, and Whitney was frantically calculating the costs in his head. At this point, there was zero profit margin left. They’d be bleeding money if they kept going.
The rival bidder raised their paddle again, didn’t even hesitate, and Blanca instantly upped the bid right after Back and forth it went, and with every new bid, Blanca was getting more and more excited
Whitney watched the bidding spiral out of control, huge beads of sweat rolling down hos forehead. Despite

the blasting AC, his shirt was drenched.
He glanced over at Brianna and caught the mocking smirk on her lips. That only made Whitney even more uneasy. He hurriedly called for a break.
With a grim expression, he dragged Blanca out of the hall. As they headed for the exit, he could feel everyone watching him like he was the main attraction at a freak show.
As soon as they stepped outside, Blanca shook off his hand, her annoyance clear. “Why did you drag me out here?”
“Something’s wrong here,” Whitney said, almost out of breath. “We need to stop bidding.”
Blanca rolled her eyes at him. “Are you out of your mind?”
“Just listen to me!” Whitney said, his voice tense. “I’m telling you, this feels like a setup. They’re just waiting for us to take the bait.”
Blanca gave him a scornful look. “You’ve spent your whole life playing it safe, no wonder you never made it big. You’re always so cautious, never had the guts to act like a real man.”
“Just trust me,” Whitney said, like a cat on hot bricks. “Even if there’s no trap, at these prices, we’ll be lucky if we break even. There’s no profit left.”
“The real estate market’s been sluggish for years. If land prices keep climbing like this, developers are just bleeding cash. He thought.
Blanca rolled her eyes again and jabbed a finger at Whitney’s forehead. “You’re so thick–headed. If we snag these core district plots, the land alone is enough to get us listed. Who cares about a bit of profit? The whole point is to take the company public. Do you even understand?”
Still not satisfied, Blanca sneered, “You really need to ditch that small–time mentality and start thinking big!”
Whitney, who almost never lost his cool, snapped at Blanca through clenched teeth, “Don’t you see something’s off? All the regulars have backed out, and Brianna’s sitting right there, smug as hell. Doesn’t that strike you as weird?”
Blanca was so wrapped up in her imagined triumph that no one else even registered to her. “They just don’t have the nerve to bid. And your daughter? She’s probably just as narrow–minded as you, thinking I’m finished.”
With that, Blanca didn’t spare Whitney another glance, head held high and hips swaying as she strutted back into the hall.
Whitney felt like a heavy weight was crushing his chest, making it hard to breathe. But he had no solid evidence to convince his wife this was a trap.
