Chapter 136 Allison Finds a Flaw
Not wasting a moment, Brianna hurried over to Gabrielle’s house.
Gabrielle looked worried. When she saw Brianna, she let out a cold snort. “Well, look who finally remembered she has a family.”
Brianna felt guilty and kept quiet. “What’s going on?”
“What’s going on? Beats me, I’d like to know too,” Gabrielle said, rubbing her temples.
After hesitating for a moment, Brianna finally voiced her doubts. “Why would Benedict do something like this?”
Brianna had thought of countless reasons. For Benedict to actually report Brandon, Margo must’ve been behind it, pulling the strings. This whole mess was probably just another family feud.
“Hmph! Benedict is just a dog that bites the hand that feeds you!” At the mention of Benedict, Gabrielle’s eyes flashed with venom.
“So what do we do now?” Brianna asked.
Levy Group has so many lawyers on retainer. Surely they can figure something out, right?’
I’m worried sick too,” Gabrielle said, frowning. “Smuggling chips, forcing a subordinate to take their own life, and now his own brother-in-law reporting him. Every single thing is out to ruin Brandon!”
Brianna understood. With all this pressure, the legal system wouldn’t risk granting Brandon bail.
Legally speaking, unless the cops have real evidence, they couldn’t keep someone locked up for more than 48 hours.
‘Did Brandon really smuggle chips?’ Brianna wondered.
From what she knew about Brandon, he’d never do something like that. That could only mean one thing. Someone framed him.
“Mom, who do you think is behind all this?” Brianna asked, suspecting Margo and trying to gauge Gabrielle’s reaction.
“Why are you asking me? Who am I supposed to ask?” Gabrielle retorted.
“Is it Margo?” Brianna asked, not beating around the bush.
“Don’t dump all the crap on me,” Margo’s voice came from behind.
Brianna turned around, surprised to see Margo standing there. She hadn’t even noticed her arrive.
“Then how do you explain Benedict’s actions?” Brianna crossed her arms, her tone sharp as she confronted Margo.
“Why don’t you ask your husband what he did to Benedict? Maybe/Benedict just wants to burn it all down and get revenge.” Margo shot back, refusing to back down.
Brianna was about to say something, but Gabrielle banged her hand on the table. “Enough! Isn’t it already a mess?”
Both of them fell silent.
Gabrielle paused, weighing her words before speaking to Margo. “The Levy family doesn’t tolerate traitors.”
Margo’s lashes quivered. She looked away from her mother, refusing to respond.
Seeing that her in-laws’ side was also in complete chaos, she had no clue where to start. She had to come up with another plan.
“Is Levy Group’s legal team handling the case?” Brianna asked.
“Yes, Mr. Lauv is taking care of everything,” Gabrielle replied.
“I’ll coordinate with him. I’m heading back now,” Brianna said, turning to leave.
Gabrielle let her go without a word.
As she walked out the door, Brianna’s heart felt even heavier. As soon as she got in the car, James turned to look at her.
“How did it go, Mrs. Meyers? What did Mrs. Levy say?” he asked.
“She’s at a loss too,” Brianna replied, massaging her brow.
She dialed the lawyer’s number.
“Mr. Lauv, is there any way I can see Brandon?” she asked.
“I’m afraid not, Mrs. Meyers. Even we are having a hard time getting in to see Mr. Levy these days,” the lawyer replied.
After a few more words, Brianna hung up, feeling even more weighed down.
James saw how down she was and tried to comfort her. “Don’t stress, Mrs. Meyers. There’s always a way.”
Brianna just smiled and stayed quiet. Just when she was at her wit’s end, her phone started ringing. It was a number she didn’t recognize.
She hesitated, then picked up. “Hello?”
“Hello, is this Mrs. Levy?” The voice on the other end sounded oddly familiar.
Brianna frowned. She knew that voice, but for the life of her, she couldn’t remember who it belonged to.
“Yeah. Who’s this?” she answered.
“It’s Allison,” the voice replied.
“Oh, it’s you,” Brianna said. “Is something up?”
“I saw the news about Brandon. I think I might be able to help,” Allison said.
Brianna didn’t answer right away. She kept feeling like there were way too many strange overlaps between her and Allison.
