Too Late For Regrets, Mr. Billionaire
Chapter 142 Quarrel at the Old Mansion
After the party ended, the whole family, just like every year, went with Josefina back to the old mansion.
Everyone was worn out from the birthday banquet, so Josefina went to bed early, and the rest of the family went upstairs.
After making sure Kendra was comfortable, Brianna returned to their room.
She had some questions for Brandon. She couldn’t let this go any longer.
Brianna opened the door and found Brandon showering in the bathroom.
While she was changing into her pajamas, her phone rang. Her mind was still on Tristan, so she answered in a hurry. Sure enough, it was Patsy,
“Are you alright, Patsy?” Brianna asked.
“It’s okay now,” Patsy replied, her voice heavy,
“Was it because Tristan ended the engagement that he attempted suicide?” Brianna asked.
While Brianna was still speaking, Brandon stepped out of the bathroom, drying his hair with a towel.
Their eyes met for a moment, but Brianna continued her call without missing a beat.
I’ve left the hospital now. Tristan and the others are still there, but his life isn’t in danger. We’ll talk more at the office tomorrow, Patsy said, her exhaustion clear in her voice.
“Alright. Take care on your way home,” Brianna reminded her, then hung up.
“What happened?” Brandon asked.
“Nothing much, just something going on with Tristan’s family,” Brianna said lightly.
Brandon frowned. “Did I hear something about someone’s life being in danger? What happened?”
“His fiancée tried to slit her wrists,” Brianna said, heading for the bathroom. She felt completely drained-physically and mentally-and all she wanted was to wash up and crash for the night.
All those questions Brianna meant to ask Brandon totally slipped her mind/She was just too exhausted to remember anything else.
Brandon’s face was dark as he stood in the bathroom doorway, watching her take off her makeup and wash her face. “Don’t tell me this has anything to do with you?”
Brianna’s temper flared instantly. She spun around, her face still covered in foam. “Why would it have anything to do with me?”
“Alright then, Brandon tossed out, turning on his heel and heading back to the bedroom.
Brianna quickly rinsed the foam off her face and chased after him. “Hey, what’s that supposed to mean? Why would you even think I had anything to do with someone else’s fiancée trying to kill herself?”
*No reason, just making conversation,” Brandon replied, not even bothering to look at her as he sprawled lazily on the bed.
Brianna felt her anger stuck in her chest, making her even more furious.
It was the same old routine-he’d piss her off, then put on that fake, refined act like nothing ever happened.

Brianna let out a cold laugh.
“Oh, please. You really think everyone’s out there sleeping around like you?” Brianna snapped.
Brandon shot up. “When have I ever hooked up with anyone?”
Brianna mimicked his polished act, dripping with sarcasm. “Alright, alright, I take it back. You’re always so squeaky clean. Never fool around, right?”
Brandon’s face tightened, a mocking smirk on his lips. “Wait, what are you trying to say…”
Before he could finish. Brianna flashed a gentle, almost patronizing smile and nodded. “Of course, you’re totally innocent with Darcy and Allison. I know, nothing ever goes on with you.”
With that, she strode into the bathroom without so much as a backward glance, locking the door behind her with a loud click.
Seeing Brandon totally shut down, Brianna felt a surge of satisfaction. She even started humming a little tune to herself in the shower. feeling victorious.
After she finished washing up and stepped out, she found Brandon slumped against the headboard, hands behind his head looking seriously pissed.
“Me and Allison? We’re totally clean!” Brandon shot back.
“Yeah, sure, totally innocent. She even sent your amulet back, didn’t she?” Brianna rolled her eyes and gave a couple of cold mocking laughs, then sat down at her vanity to do her skincare routine.
Brandon was visibly shaken. He got out of bed and sat at the foot of it, staring at Brianna.
“We were just kids back then. Exchanging gifts was totally normal,” Brandon tried to sound confident, but he didn’t sound convincing at all.
Brianna finished wiping her face and walked over to the bed. “But bringing her into the company? That’s crossing a line.
Brandon looked like Brianna had struck a nerve; his face clouded with anger. “only made her chief legal counsel at Levy Group for her credentials. She’s not actually coming in to work.”
“And anyway, she did me a favor this time, so I’m just settling a debt,” he added.
Brianna let out a cold laugh. “Seriously? Her resume is impressive enough. You really think she needs to pad it with a company legal counsel title?”
“She’s planning to start her own law firm, so she needs some corporate experience, Brandon explained, frowning and sounding like Brianna was just being unreasonable and didn’t understand.
“Why not go to Flynn Group?” Brianna cut straight to the point. “She and Kane are pretty close, and Flynn Group is right near her hometown. Why not go there instead?”
Brandon was at a loss for words.
Brianna grabbed a blanket from the closet and climbed into bed. “Don’t tell me you’re worried about appearances. If anyone should be keeping their distance, it’s her ex, not you!”
With that, she turned off her bedside lamp and lay down, facing away from him.
Brandon climbed into bed. feeling awkward, and turned off the light. After a long, heavy silence, he finally spoke, his voice soft and almost mournful. “We’re husband and wife, Brianna. You should trust me.”

But Brianna didn’t say a word.
All night, neither of them said a word.
The next morning, Brianna dropped Kendra and Justin off at school. As she got in the car, she remembered she’d wante ask Brandon about Benedict last night, but totally forgot. ‘Guess I’ll ask him about it some other time, she thought.
After dropping Kendra and Justin off at school, Brianna got in her car and drove to work.
As soon as she got to work, Brianna made a beeline for Patsy’s office.
“Alright, spill it. What actually went down yesterday?” Brianna pressed.
Patsy gave a wry, helpless smile. “What else? They were pushing him to get married.”
Brianna was speechless.
After a brief pause, she finally asked, “Is he okay?”
“It wasn’t serious. They caught it in time, so she didn’t even need a blood transfusion,” Patsy said, pursing her lips. “Tristar really stirred up a hornet’s nest this time.”
“Honestly, he should just marry her. She’s only in her early twenties, stuck by his side all this time, and they’re already engaged. If he doesn’t go through with it, how’s she supposed to move on?” Brianna frowned and couldn’t help but think her own experience.
Patsy gave her a rueful smile and shook her head.
“Honestly, even the best judge couldn’t untangle their family mess. We should just keep out of it,” Patsy said.
“Yeah, guess you’re right,” Brianna nodded and went back to her office.
